How do you hang things up in a tent?

Just back from our first proper camping trip in our Outwell Oakland XL. Had a great time, but realise I need to sort out storage! Plastic crates will do for most stuff, but what about hanging coats etc?

When I camped as a child, we had hooks which hung over the poles inside the tent and awning, but obviously the poles on the Oakland are outside!

What does everyone else do about hanging stuff?

I bought a load of S shaped hooks and hang stuff from the bed pod straps.

Thanks Ginger, that's a good idea. I did hang some things from the door straps (the things you use to hold up the rolled up doors!), but was a bit concerned about the extra weight pulling on the tent.

Thinking about it, the bed pod straps are a better idea as there are quite a few of them so the weight can be better distributed. I shall put S shaped hooks on my increasing list of 'things we need to make camping better'!

No problems, I also use them to hang pans and utensils on the side of the cooker windbreak freeing up more workspace.

I take an airer like this direct.tesco.com/q/R.209-2479.aspx for hanging damp stuff on (you know, for those rare occasions it rains!) - packs totally flat so no space implications!

Not us, but some people take a collapsible clothes rail that you can get in Argos. It's good because it's freestanding and doesn't place any strain on the tent.

When I had a car and went camping with the big tent, I used a folding coat stand/ironing holder thingy. It's like a hat stand sort of thing with three arms which you can hang hangers on or coats over it or hats or bags etc. Useful when camping and going to weddings for hanging up the posh frock and wedding hat also for keeping stuff out of reach of toddler.

I've been having the same problem, was ok in t'old days with frame tents but these dome things are rubbish for hanging stuff. I've been thinking about getting some kind of folding airer/coatrack for the coats etc but it needs to pack up small and I haven't seen one that fits the bill yet.

Tastymuffins, your one sounds like the sort of thing I was thinking of.

Thanks all - yes muffins, that sounds good - I can't quite picture it though!!!

The folding airers would be good for drying wet clothes (obviously!), but not so good for just hanging up coats and stuff.

I've seen the collapsible clothes rail in Argos for 8.99, so that's a definite possibility.

We camped for 2 weeks in Cornwall in the summer and I did a machine wash. Borrowed one of these when we were there and have just bought one to take next year.

We have the Aldi version of one of these they crop up at the start of the season for about £9. Good for hanging shirts on as well as coats
