Camping

Camping in late September/early October. Is it a good idea?

We haven't been camping for ages but still have all our stuff and are thinking of starting up again but the only time we can get now (with work etc.) is the weekend at the end of Sept 29th/30th. It'll be me, dh, ds1 (5) and ds2 (2). Would you go that late?

We went in June a few years ago and that was freezing too.

We went mid September last year and picked a really chilly weekend. Days were fine but the nights draw in early and it dropped to 6c the first night. Slept in thermals and hats.

That was just bad luck tbh, the next weekend was warmer.

We camped this April, it was warmer than nearly every day of our recent 2 weeks in Norfolk!!

Most campsites will be pretty quiet by that time anyway.

Bumping this thread for the sheer irony of the conversation!

I wish we were camping this w/e!

I would just need to plan my day around the fact that it gets darker so much earlier. So would do lots of tidying / cooking prep type jobs earlier as I am not good at getting it all done in the dark.

We went camping 16/9. It was lovely, a bit breezy, not fantastic weather, but OK. Only thing was how damp from the dew everything was when we were packing up. Not a problem as the site was laid back about leaving time, but everything was very damp. Just make sure you've got enough bedclothes and a heater.

Brilliant. I hope she went!

We were going to go tonight but too knackered after work, but we're all packed up for a 6.30am start tomorrow.

We went last weekend. Lots of dew but lovely time. Just wrap up warm at night.

This weekend would be great for camping. I'm at home but DP has gone to Wales for the weekend climbing and has taken a bivvy bag and mat - he's sleeping under the stars tonight.

We went last weekend. There was a lot of dew but the weather in Sussex was beautiful. We're going again tomorrow. That will be our third camping trip since the beginning of Sept so it's definitely doable.

I was so tempted to get the tent out again, but at 37 weeks pregnant DH said definitely no!

Plus he doesn't like camping when it's too hot.

Maybe I'll just stick a chair in the back garden, grab a blanket and sleep there, it's too hot in the bedroom. :o

We went! The weather was glorious, I didn't bother to take waterproofs and this morning we woke up and.....

RAIN! Had to pack down a wet tent (again), when yesterday we were roasting in shorts and t's.

We didn't even bother to pack the tent away properly because the next dry day it has to go up in the garden. It is currently in a sad wet heap in the boot of the car :(

I went one Easter and had Icicles in the tent.

DP has just got home, bivvying went ok-ish, but on Friday it rained at 2am, he couldn't sleep in the car and was too hot in the sleeping bag, but seems to have sorted himself out for the following night but still got rained on a little bit.
