My family go to Freshwater Caravan Park in Burton Bradstock, nr Bridport. It's brilliant, although beach isn't really safe for swimming, theres a river. They've also just built a new indoor complex there, have horses, evening club, donkey derby and all sorts of things arranged if you want to join in. Also a large field and childrens park on site. Lots of walks nearby over the cliffs as well.

There's one at Ypres, haven't been there as parents live in Dorset but we go to the beach which is shingles but utterly beautiful. It's just out of Bridport.

Whoops, I mean Eypes not the battlefield in France. I knew it looked right but suddenly had a feeling it wasn't quite the right place..

Golden cap site is in a fabulous location, easy stroll to the sea, pub/ ice creams on the beach, small shop, no bar- but as the pub is down the road you dont need it. They have a large camping field with marked out pitches, then there is Area 9 - the seasonal sloping windy field with amazing views- 10 mins walk to the loos! Take your pick. We love it there though. I'm going to retire to that coastline when I'm 68 Envy

Thanks all. Having gone round and round in circles, we've booked Newlands at Charmouth. It was a toss up between that and Golden Cap but the reviews that said Golden Cap can be windy put us of. Had to pack up tent early last year due the the Aug storms. I was only one who didn't sleep!!
In the end it had to be that bit of coast for the fossils and beaches. Have done the bit from Swanage to Weymouth a couple of years ago.
And if any of you have been to Newlands and it was rubbish please don't say anything I will go mental if I have to look again!!

Newlands will be lovely I'm sure - yes the top field at golden cap is v windy at times, we always camp in the lower field sheltered by the static caravans and toilet block! Have a lovely time in a fabulous area of the world Smile

Just bumping this incase you have already been to Newlands. I have just booked a week there from 6th August and wanted your impressions! UK Campsite has mainly good reviews so that's in its favour. Like you I was going insane trying to find anywhere in the SW at this late stage. The family are now moaning that there's no surfing close by. I give up!

We did like it. Great location for visiting places and great for fossil hunting on Charmouth beach. But you will be needing your earplugs!! School broke up a week earlier than most here and as we left on the Saturday it was getting fuller and fuller, but I guess that'll be the same for most places.
Which field are you camping in?

I'll be back later for a fuller update, got to get my kids up, they are still on camping time!!
