Ewleaze this August- anyone else going?

Just booked- very excited! DP less so, as he has to work Sat night and we are booked Sunday to Weds over B/H weekend. May end up getting train with pup tent and DS if he refuses to come along!

Yes, hoping weather is good but it sounds great, I couldnt resist - organic pizza and campfires, hurrah!

Its fab- have been for last two years for 2 weeks at a time.... am already missing not going this year ....... had such bad weather last year though going to france this year instead - not the sites fault but would def recomend decent windbreaks and delta pegs ... but am hoping they will be open 2012 and don't get completely full for olympics... enjoy

Oo, let me know how it goes! We are taking our new megatent (7m floorspace!), am a bit worried that a) we won't have enough space and b) won't be able to get it up (fnarr!)!

Rollersara- I wouldn't worry about space its massive there... do you know what field your heading for as some do get more crowded than others....?

Are some fields better than others then? Is there one you' d recommend?

I'll be going with ds 29-31 August. Booked yesterday after reading this post.... and have got no camping stuff whatsoever... any tent recommendations that I can to stick up on my own? Any site recommendations for where to pitch if I do manage to get it up, so to speak ..

there were 6/7 fields last year 4 large and 2/3 smaller and sorry cant remember the names

There are generally loos in each field as well as the central area- re the fields there is one large one which has fantastic sea views and no cars except for drop off/pick up but is quite slopy and has the coast path (and cliff edges) on the side probably has the least number of toilets!

the next field up gets the busiest as has sea views but you can take cars

next is another large field which is probably the flattest so also gets busy but still plenty of space

next field is the 'corner' field - furthest from the sea - quite flattish along the hedge but very slopey as goes up a hill - you can see seaviews/Weymouth fireworks if you walk up the hill it is also more protected from the wind...and also has less traffic as is route to nowhere we have pitched here both visits due to travelling with small kids and felt safer as nowehere for them to go

I wasnt so keen on the smaller fields as they get more people driving through them-didn't really look at the field opposite reception - but you'd have a big view of the carpark!

as people come and go at all times its best just to drive around until you see a spot you fancy or notice some people packing up and wait..

if it gets really wet you can park in the village near the church and walk along the footpath as the road in is quite steep

sorry for the essay, the toilets are cleaned frequently and if you're happy to use the composting loos you'll should never have to wait!

Bradsmum, before buying the megatent, I used to have something like this (I had a cheaper version but similar concept), which I could easily put up by myself and fitted two people plus stuff quite comfortably. It is a 3 berth but in my experience that means 3 people can sleep in it but then there's no space left over for any stuff!

Thanks 3rdnparty that was such a useful post, its good to get tips - especially when you have never been camping before, I feel much more confident about where to pitch etc (although it still bothers me how you know how far away from other tents to pitch - I understand that it is unmarked pitches - I have never really paid attention when I have walked through campsites as to how tightly (or not) packed everyone is. I am sure there is some kind etiquette that everyone but me is aware of!!) I'm hoping it will all become clear when we get there......

thanks squashed- I really like Eweleaze its unique not like camping anywhere else I've been............hope you have a good time re distance apart the minimum recommended away from fires and between tents is 6m/ approx 2 yards (length of your arm approx a yard)... but would always allow more personally esp with real fires as Eweleaze plenty big enough unlikely to be too close to anyone else but make sure your far enough away from your own fire - sparks and nylon not a good combination...

Rollersara - thanks for the tip - that looks a fab tent and reasonably priced. I admit to having got carried away reading MN posts and have been eyeing up a Quechua pop up tent (would rather wrestle with it putting it away than getting it up!). It's all the other stuff too that I haven't considered - stoves, air beds, etc - blimey! I think many years ago I just used a small 2 man tent, took a sleeping bag and headed for the pub!

I love GoOutdoors for all that kind of stuff - you can get pretty cheap stuff that's all you need if you're only going once or twice a year! We have a little camping gaz stove, a set of little pans and a picnic set. Although something I'm looking forward to about Ewleaze is they have quite a lot of hot food onsite so we can be a bit lazy!
