Calorie-counting

Less calories in the week leaving more for the weekend?

I need to stick to 1500 calories a day to slowly lose weight. I stick to healthy eating well throughout the week but once it's the weekend and DP has treats I can't resist.

So I thought 7×1500 gives me a weekly total of 10,500 calories.

If I stuck to 900 Monday - Friday that would leave me with 6000 at the weekend. So I can eat well and indulge a bit without feeling like I've fallen off the wagon.

I'm thinking of giving this a trial but wondered if anyone does or has done similar, or if it's seems like a terribly unhealthy idea. Is it basically a form of binge eating?!

You'd be better off not indulging. Once you form a habit of not eating junk food it is easier to resist. Take yourself off if need be for the minute or two they'll realistically take him to eat them.

I lost 2.5 stone doing 1500 cals in the week and still indulging at weekends 🤷‍♀️ but i was about 25 then 😂. 900 per day would not be sustainable I would maybe aim for 1200 in the week and then choose one day to have you're indulgence on the weekend say saturday and then eat normally on sunday.

I think there’s a Gizzi Erskine recipe book on that very subject.

I do this not completely consciously and basically what happens is I lose 2-3lbs during the week, then put it back on at the weekend. Over and over.

‘Skinny weeks, weekend feasts’ is the name of the book.

Reduce the time you have treats. Maybe do an "eat what I like Fri eve and then also a treat breakfast on either Sat or Sun"

You can do that but not to the extent you're planning. 900 x 5 days and 3000 x 2 days is really unhealthy, both mentally and physically.
You could do 1200 x 5 and 2250 x2.

Yes you are all right! I'll be sensible and continue the healthy eating from the week into the weekend but allow myself one or two non-restrictive meals as suggested as I cannot eliminate junk food completely!

Thanks for the head wobble MN!

I do one treat meal per week - try to save about 150-200 cals per day and then Friday evening have a pizza or something. Really helps keep me on track the rest of the time as if I’m craving something I can tell myself I can have it on Friday.

MadisonMontgomery good idea. This is what I need to stick to!

900 a day is very difficult to stick to (especially on a Friday!) I think I would try 1200 Monday to Thursday and increase a bit at the weekend to max of 1800cals. This would keep you under 1500 daily average. Good luck.

What I do as well is allow myself a treat meal but a smaller portion. This often allows me to stay within my calorie limit. So for example I'll have half a pizza instead of a whole one. Or I'll have something like duck breast or steak in a nice sauce but with salad and no carbs.

If we're having a glass of wine in the evening we'll put crisps etc in a small bowl and just have that (generally too lazy to get up for more 😁)

I do find though that once I start losing weight I'm less inclined to eat junk and undo all my good work!

It's not that crazy of an idea. It's basically the idea behind the very popular 5:2 diet - cut back on certain days, eat more on other days.

I was doing 1200 calories a day and if I wanted a treat I would have it (Aldi Toffee Cream Tart❤️) and just eat less the rest of the day so I didn't go over the target. Doing it like that started to make me realise the treat wasn't actually worth it. Another tip is that I changed my target to 1340 and somehow mentally that makes it easier to keep to my actual target of 1200....since I've changed my target to 1340 I have hardly gone above 1200, whereas before I sometimes did.

I do this.
I eat 1500 mon-fri then 2000 at weekends.

Both are still a normal ‘range’ of calories - 900 and 3000 seems a bit excessive but there’s enough difference that I can look forward to a treat and a more indulgent dinner etc. Also makes socialising much easier!

It’s doing a great job at keeping me on track too as I start to get a bit fed up by Friday. I’ve lost 10lb doing this
