Infant feeding

Just stopped BF - how long until my breasts get the hint?

I stopped BF about a week ago (after reducing fairly gradually over time), and although I'm not too sore it's obvious my body hasn't quite taken the hint to stop milk production yet. How long does it take? And when do you think I can be really confident that there's nothing there so I can reintroduce my chest to my sex life?! Cheers all.

How long were you at it? (B/feeding I mean!)

I stopped the lat night feed at 10 months and I think it took a good 2 weeks to stop leaking and being sore.

Shouldn't be long. I'm not much good as I never leaked a drop in over 3 years of b/feeding.
Good for you!

I fed until 11 months (I was aiming for 1 yr, but just couldn't keep going for the last month with all the pinching, teething etc.). No leaking, but firm in that "it's coming up to a feed time" kind of way. Shame they don't stay this firm...

Really? Only two weeks? My husband will be delighted!..

Anyone else? Is two weeks the usual then?

I just stopped after 18 months and had no soreness or leaking straight away. Was only doing one feed a day then though.

I stopped after 14 months with DS1 - and it was only about 10 days or so.

DS2 was a different story, BF didn't work out and at 5 days after my milk not having 'let down' at all I switched to bottles.

Anyhow I digress - 5 days of BF - and 8 MONTHS later my body finally completely got the hint

I gave up bfing after 3 weeks with ds1 and took half a course of bromocriptine (GP was worried my severe mastitis was likely to absess, I only took half as was making me dizzy) and I was still getting milk out months later. In fact dh got a bad mouthful by mistake! (although he likes it when its fresh!).
I think its different depending on the individual though, some people swear the milk disappears very soon after.
