Breast not emptied after feed, offer it again or move on to next?

Hello.

Could you remind me.... My boy Fred was born on Saturday and is feeding well. My milk has ome in today but he isnt emptying the breast fully, even after an hour of feeding. His latch is fine and he is swallowing long and deep etc. Should I go back to this un- emptied breast on the next feed or start on the fresh one?

Thanks in advance.

After an hour I'd offer the other one for the next feed otherwise you'll get engorged. If he's just had a minute or so, I'd offer the same one next time. I don't think it really matters to any huge extent though, as long as you aren't favouring one side over the other all the time
(as I was the other day, realised I'd fed mostly on the left so I could MN with my right hand )

The breasts never get completely empty. Agree with SPB, if he has had a good go at one side then offer him the other side next time.

And more congratulations.

I would move to alternate breast for next feed, and your body will adjust to the demand/supply. For engorgement, warmth and gentle self-expression is useful to ease. A warm bath very effective if you get the chance!
Congratulations!

Congrats i always swapped them around around during a feed, i dont think iv ever bn fully empty, ever... If ur engorged on ur left offer him that side next time and i used to massage them under a hot shower which really helped me... U cud always express off a little and freeze it for a later date... Best of luck

"i always swapped them around around during a feed"
lovely image of you removing your breasts to swop them round

I'm having the same issue with my 1 week old! My milk has come in with a vengence, and my right boob had been rock solid for the past 2 days - despite her feeding loads. I was thinking of expressing, but was worried that it might have some affect on my supply? Is it too early to start expressing? Will expressing from my right just make even more milk???
