After a bad day, DD had her 4 month injections today and had a bit of a bad reaction, DH brought a bottle of red wine home for us to relax with. I normally express one feed a day for DH to do the dream feed with so having a couple of glasses not a problem as DD normally sleeps until 7am no problem. I just sneaked into her room to take her temp while she was asleep, we have one of those point at the head thermometers. I disturbed her and she woke crying. I tried to ssshh her for a bit but it didn't work as it was only half an hour to an hour to her DF and she was hungry. Without thinking I fed her, thinking DH with get her bottle ready and finish her feed. She has had paracetamol at 11am and Ibuprofen at 2pm but nothing else as she calmed down and so did her temp. Is it going to react with the alcohol? I am really worried, I just didn't think!!! I don't normally drink at all at the moment. i can't believe I was so stupid! Will it be OK?

Sorry it's a bit of a ramble I'm worried

I wouldn't worry, the alcohol will be minimal in your breatmilk, how long after drinking the wine did you feed her?

Oh don't worry about it at all. It's fine.Really.

Nearly straight away. I had 1 glass at about 8, another at 9. Then fed her at 9.30.

Thanks for getting back to me so quick.

hoya, have had a quick nosey online, apparently you shouldnt breastfeed her after less the two hours after you drank, BUT this is a one off so she'll be fine, might have a bit of wind but most babys react to something the mu has eaten or drank, so she may well have had wind if you ate an orange! iygwim

Where on earth does the 2 hour limit come from milknosugar?

Feeding after a couple of glasses is FINE. You will have done her no harm whatsoever. Have a nice night and finish off the bottle

Yes. With no ill effects at all, no wind even.

Don't worry. You haven't done anything to worry about.

Goodness, yes, Chica, I did.
It will be fine, please don't worry.

Yes I have several times, probably first at about 4 months. DD is 9 months now, and totally fine, very little alcohol will get into your breastmilk.

It's fine. Really don't worry. The amount of alcohol she will get via breast milk is so minute, it's negligible for 2 glasses of wine. In any case, it's almost always better to feed despite maternal diet/drink than not to feed, or substitute.

It won't give her wind either!

The worse side effects I could find when researching this for my own benefit were that the milk might taste funny to your baby and she wouldn't take as much or that your let down might not be as strong. So if you've fed her and she didn't mind, then all good

hey maybe you can stop the expressing too!

I have two bright and healthy children, now 8 and 13. They were both exclusively bf until 7 and 6 months respectively and at least 1 night a week, I would have fed them after considerably more than 2 glasses of wine! Please don't worry, your dd will be fine.

I was always quite relaxed about having the odd glass of wine while breast feeding - I don't drink much but I don't think I could have bf my two DC so successfully without a calming glass of wine every now and then! Hope you all have a good night's sleep and that your DD is feeling better her jabs.

I certainly fed after a couple of glasses of wine too. And not a one off.

Chica - I'm sure it's absolutely fine. Well I have done this MANY times and I'm hoping DSs will still pass their A Levels .

I'm pretty certain that Tiktok said you had to be at least 3 times the driving limit to have a negative effect on your baby but don't quote me.

Breastfeeding is bloody hard work and a glass of wine or two is the least you deserve. Enjoy

Thanks so much everyone, I worry all the time. DH kept telling me it would be OK and to calm down, but needed mumsnetters with their calm advice. Thanks everyone. She is asleep now so I have poured myself another glass, cheers!!!

I like expressing one feed a day isnt a hardship. DH really enjoys giving the dream feed and it works really well for us. Plus I have got to go back to work in January when DD is 7.5 months so I will have to express then. So I am pleased she takes a bottle so easily. She doesn't seem to care where the milk comes from as long as she gets it.

Enjoy your glass of wine and don't worry.

As for the expressing, you are lucky that it works for you and she takes the bottle so easily. Mine never did and as a result have had many, many feeds that must taste of wine.

Please don't worry. It really doesn't matter. The worst that can happen is that she might be a little unsettled. It won't hurt her, so little goes into your milk and you'd hardly drunk much anyway! My worst ever was with DS not long after he's started sleeping through 7 to 7 at about 4 months and we were on holiday and having popped him happily into bed at 7pm in a travel cot I proceeded to have a fair few glasses of wine with my friends not thinking I'd need to feed him before 7.30am. I went to bed at 1am after definitely drinking too much. DS decided to wake up at 2.30am!!! I should have known he'd wake up when we were somewhere new. I tried and tried to resettle him without feeding but no luck, I just had to do it (on holiday, so no milk in the freezer etc), he popped off straight back to sleep and was absolutely fine and happy no adverse reaction (Oh my god I felt ghastly though!). I'm not saying it's something I'd plan on doing but honestly, I wouldn't worry as a one off.
