If I drink peppermint tea, might it help DD's awful trapped wind?

I used to put mint in DS's expressed breast milk, on a recommendation from my breatfeeding counsellor. I really can't remember what I used though - not fresh mint. I think if you drink it, it can't hurt, but someone better-informed will be along in a minute.

have you though of baby massage, btw? My cousin swore by it for her ds's wind.

Fresh peppermint and peppermint essential oils has been linked to supply reduction and is sometimes used when a mum has oversupply so use with caution. But you'd have to drink masses of it to make a difference.

Are you confident about your latch? Sometimes positioning and latching problems can make a huge difference with wind as a baby is literally taking air in unnecessarily. Does baby ever seem to struggle with a fast letdown?

How are baby's poos?

I presume you're having lots of crying fits - I sympathise my first used to cry for 1 hour each night and nothing seemed to help till the wind finally came up....but some things made it worse....
tomato soup! add 1/2 hr to crying, lots of pure orange also worsened and feeding at less that 3 hr intervals. She fed every 3 hrs from the start but I noticed on days I gave her early feeds because I was going out the crying got worse at night.
Last she did have a habit of feeding to sleep which I had to break at 10months I have read since could be a possible cause of colic. hope this helps know nothing about the mint thing

I think my latch is ok, but will go to bf cafe and get someone to take a look. i've tried infacol, cranial osteopathy, massage and gentle 'bicycling' but no joy.she is also suffering from reflux and so i dont wind her after or during as i end up wearing the lot. i do have a fast let down and she sometimes struggles with this and chokes. i am currently feeding about every 2 hrs as she still has jaundice. she is obviously in a lot of pain. her poos are yellow, she does 4 or 5 a day and lots of wees.

i have to say i am getting a bit demoralised now

The fast letdown could be making quite a difference. If she is choking and spluttering and pulling off that will contribute to wind. At the bf cafe someone should hopefully be able to show you some positions where you are more reclined so your flow is going against gravity OR baby is more upright as in this link:

If you have a possible oversupply you may find block nursing helps. You could talk to a counsellor on one of the national helplines.

thank you all. tambajam, i will try those positions today, it does sound like the let down might be the problem.
