DD is 11 months and still BFing morning and evening and during the day when i am not at work. Her 2nd upper tooth (4th in total) is just coming through and has cut a graze on both of my nipples. Feeding is now agony. I dug out my lansinoh from days gone past but no help. Any one else have this? Any advice please - I really don;t want to give up but the prospect of the pain continuing may push me overboard.

Thanks!

Is she nipping you during feeding or actively biting you rather than suckling? She could also be using you as a 'teether'. Try applying bongela or similar product a few minutes before a breastfeed. You can also get Teething granules(BOOTS own brand or NELSONS) - I found these invaluable with my children, especially my first. They are a homeopathic remedy containing Chamomile. They really work and you can give 1 sachet up to every 2 hours (maximum 6 sachets daily). The company which produces Calpol also produce something called CALGEL - just be careful with this as you can't then give another product containing paracetamol at the same time.

Don't forget to hand-express a little of your milk out after every feed - massage it gently on and around the nipple and allow the air to get to it for a few minutes. If baby is actively biting you then ease her off the breast and calmly but firmly say 'No' to her. Tell her she mustn't bite Mummy as it hurts. Good luck.

I had this a little while ago. I found BFing in a different position helped, meant the teeth weren't rubbing on the cut.
I think mine took about 3 days to heal up - you have my sympathy, it's bloody painful.

Thanks for the advice. No, she's not biting, it is a graze from rubbing teeth.

ABB did yours just not reappear when the tooth had fully come through?

I had this - little cut grooves where two teeth rested and rubbed - ouch. Did same as ABB and it cleared up quite quickly. It occasionally comes back but we just change position again!

I had this too and it does really hurt. I found this helpful and it did seem to settle down / heal up within a few days. Hope yours does too.
