Which is the best formula?

I'll probably bottlefeed DD. I'd like to have some formula ready at home for when I come back from hospital (and maybe I'm supposed to take it to hospital too). Which one do you recommend and why? Thanks a lot!

The one that your nearest late night garage/shop sells

Whatever's the cheapest these days?

I use Aptamil for dd3. I breast fed my other two. I chose Aptamil because my friends use it and say it seems to be gentler on the stomach.

I have come across a few idiots people who say Aptamil is 'closer to breast milk' which is, of course a load of rubbish - no formula is like breast milk. In fact I think formulas are all pretty much identical in composition.

Thanks! That's good to know. With DS1 I used SMA because that was what he was given in hospital. I also thought that all formulas were more or less the same, but a friend disagreed and I never found out why. So I'll go to Sainsbury's and check prices

they're all equally adequate.
give breastfeeding a go though, you might like it! (and it'll be a lot cheaper )

I use Cow & Gate and it's never been any trouble unlike some other brands I have read about in previous threads.

they're all crap. Which of course isn't helpful to you, but unfortunately true.

Ds was a bit constipated on SMA so switched to Aptamil and it suited him fine. Depends on the baby though, different ones suit different babies! I don't think any of the formulas are drastically different bit I personally think there are slight differences. I think they're all equally nutritional etc etc...

Danceswithchickens, you know your post wasn't helpful, so why did you bother posting such a stupid comment?

I found that Aptamil disagreed with dd2, I think because of the prebiotics, it gave her explosive diarrhoea. The only one I could find without them was Hipp Organic which was also the cheapest. I don't think any one is better than the other, but sometimes a different brand will suit different babies.

Thanks again for your posts, except for Danceswithchickens' of course. I guess she tried them all and her kids didn't do very well... I hope it's not the case. Anyways, I'll keep an eye on any reaction

Dd had C&G 1 and then Hipp Organic. No problems with either but Hipp smells a lot nicer.

Used to feel guilty giving her C&G as it smelt so foul. Dd did not care and gobbled it all up anyway.

Plus Hipp is cheaper. However the packaging on the C&G is better as it has a built in leveller.
