4 week old bottle fed baby has dreadful diarrhoea. Should I change formula?

Hi. DD2 has had such bad diarrhoea that her nappy has been soaked through as well as two layers of clothes and a blanket. It's been happening every two days for over a week. My Health Visitor just told me to keep an eye on it. I asked her if I should change formula and she said it wouldn't do any harm but couldn't recommend one.
She's on Aptamil at the moment and I wouldn't know where to begin researching alternatives. Has anyone had similar problems on Aptamil?
Is there another brand that might be easier on her tummy? I'm considering Hipp Organic.
My Avent steam steriliser also seems to be taking around 30 minutes when it should take 6 so the diarrhoea could be down to that although I'd think after all that time any contents would certainly be sterile!
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

aptamil has prebiotics which can cause runny poo. Hipp organic doesnt have them so it might be worth trying it to see if it makes a difference.

Thank you. I'll give it a try.

I'm glad I'm not the only one in this dilemma. My Health Visitor treated me like I was mad today!
Thanks Seona. I'll try Hipp Organic. I just wish they had the ready made cartons as part of their range.

DD is on Hipp and has had no problems. It smells nicer then the other brand too.

I'm using Hipp with ds as i tried them all with dd2 and found all the ones with prebiotics caused her to have runny poo and chronic wind.

Yes goth the ones with prebiotics to smell (and must taste) rank.

does she seem poorly?
am a bit concerned that a 4 week old with such bad diaorrhea has not been checked by a doctor, just in case...

hipp can be a good one as nothing really added to it.

glad your HP did not recommend a formula, they are not supposed to favour one brand!!

What makes you think it's diarrhoea? Runny yellow poo is normal in a newborn.

not really for bottle fed babies

poos tend to be more solid

mine were both bottle fed and only had that sort of liquid poo that soaked through clothes when unwell

although i know the probiotics /fish oils etc added to some formulas to try to make them more like breastmilk can make poo runnier, like breastmilk poo

Keep an eye on this as sometimes it can be a sign of milk allergy/intolerance.

Guess the telling will be when you change formula.

Is she otherwise well?

My 2 both had SMA and were more likely to be constipated than have runny poo, but most of hte time they were fine.

I spoke to the HV about it and sh's made an appointment to come out to check next week.
Lulumama - I was concerned she should see a Dr too, but since she's putting on weight, not dehydrated, is having wet nappies and is otherwise thriving I've been advised to keep an eye on it and take her to the Dr if it persists.
Flamingo - it's not just runny poo. It's like water and even a fresh nappy can't cope!
Jollypirate - My nephew is lactose intolerant so this is a bit of a worry but she's not showing other symptoms.
I've bought a new sterliser since ours was a bit old and some Hipp Organic formula.
Thanks for all the advice! Fingers crossed she'll be pooing well soon!
