Help!! Advice needed - My 8.5mo DS refusing feeds!!

My DS is 8.5mo and has been weaned on to 3 meals a day. He has done really well since going on to solids but just recentley he is getting really upset when i try to BF him.

At first i was always offering BF before solids, but he wasn't always interested (playing around and biting me (ouch!)) so I began bfing him first thing, once in the afternoon and then last thing at night (he doesnt feed through the night).

This last 2 weeks though has been really hit and miss. He feeds well first thing but then i struggle to get him to have any in the daytime. He is not refusing the breast but instead he will suck for a few seconds and then just get really frustrated and start screaming and thrashing about. The last couple of nights he hasn't had much of a feed before bed so it's really only been what he's had first thing in the morning.

So i'm not sure what to do - is he getting upset because my supply is low (although if i squeeze my nipple milk will come out when he is feeding - not loads but it is there)? Is he self-weaning? Because i'd really prefer not to have to give him formula after all the hardwork i've put in to bfing! Or do you think it might just be a bit of a phase - i've read the other threads which suggest it might be a bit of trend at this age. If so, what do i do about maintaining my milk supply in case he changes his mind?

Sorry this is so long, i'm usually a serial lurker on here but am feeling rubbish about this and need some help!

I don't think I can offer much in the way of help, but your situation is very similar to what happened with dd1. She stopped feeding at about 9m, having got down to 2 feeds a day (first thing and once in the day)

I didn't have MN know much about bf then so just thought it was a natural occurence (also co-incided with her biting A LOT). I know there are ways of trying to get feeding going again and that there is such thing as 'nursing strike'... try looking on the kellymom website or searching the MN archives

I guess it depends on how you feel about him stopping, as well

teeth?

that's my stock answer to everything at the mo as DD was being all odd when teething a few weeks back.
