Infant feeding

TIKTOK TIKTOK, Could I bow down in the presence of your wisdom and ask you something please?

I have mastitis
I am taking anti boitics and I am starting to feel a little better

When I went to the doctor I was told that I should express and discard from the sore boob
I should not let gecko feed from that boob as the mik has bugs in it and she will get ill.

I thought this sounded wrong and didn't heed it

Other advice I was given on a thread I started about this before I went to the doctor was to feed as normal from the sore boob to help ease the blockage (as baby feeding will be more effective than expressing) and that the mastitus or anti biotics would not harm gecko

this seemed right to me and I have been doing that
only now I'm paranoid and worried I have done wrong
Please could you tell me what I should be doing and what I can do if I have possibly harmed my baby

Gecko will get very hot milk for a while, too, until the fever and infection passes! Lovely in this cold weather.

TR... your doctor is talking out of his/her *%$&

Feed, feed, feed! Drink plenty of fluids and rest.

oh no popsycal
dont say that
it has scared me tbh
I didn't realise it was so nasty
I've never had it before

I have breastfed three children for a total time of 3 years and 7 months and never had it

It completely wiped me out
I've neevr known a fever like it
I'm on 500mg of an antibiotic that starts with f 4 times a day
I'm really being careful about making sure I take them AND finish the course (7 days)

it's the worst fever I've ever had, too. but it does pass quickly with anti b's.

hope you feel better soon

I tried the dangle feed thing earlier and gecko was laughing more than she was feeding

Oh, you poor thing!

No way should you express and discard - feed with chin pointing towards lumpy bit on boob as that clears it well (ime).

I did dangle-feeding without even knowing it existed as a "thing" when DS2 was 10 days old and I had mastitis! Just seemed the most logical way to feed him with his chin pointing at the lump as it was at the top of my breast. I had to feed him with his feet pointing to my head and all I could see was his earlobes waggling and his chin going up and down as he fed - v odd!

Really hope you're better very soon.

if niot i,proving in 2 days go back gp
if gets worse go back immediatelt
ice packs really helped getn mine under control
emergency gp sent me home and gave me 4 hours anfd rang me bacvk - double my dose of anti b, sdaid nurofemnn and ice pack - she rang me at 10pm to see if improving or would have admitted me to hospital

be vigilant but dont panic
try the ice

ok I still have a lump in my breast
I didn;t take paracetemol EXACTLY 4 hours after the last lot and didn't start shaking uncontrollably from the fever which I had been doing on saturday and sunday (before the 4 hours actually but just shook abd clock watched till I could take some more)

I do feel better all round, I was achey and weak as a mouse but thats going now

Do I have to make sure the lump goes quickly aswell

or is that ok just now if I am feeling better and the boob isn't anything like as sore as it was

Yes, DS2 would be similar now! He'd probably grab it and go "HOOOOOOOOOOOOONK!" actually

Are you taking ibuprofen too?

It sounds like you're on the mend, but you do need to watch the lumpy bit. Less sore is good though!
