Multivitamins and BF

This is a bit of a dumb question, but reading a thread yesterday about the whole 'iron after 6 months' issue made me wonder.
Someone posted that taking iron supplements was pointless, as it wouldn't be passed on to baby through breastmilk.

What's the point of taking multivitamins at all then? DS is 5 weeks, I've been taking vitamins and mineral supplements through the pregnancy and onwards, when DD was born in the States I was told to take the supplements as long as I was nursing, as it would effectively improve the quality of the milk for baby.

Is it wrong? I'm happy to take them for me anyway, but I was kind of hoping it would do baby some good too.

No, it doesn't improve the quality of the milk, unless you were seriously malnourished. Multivits at this stage would be purely for you, to keep you getting run down, particularly if you're finding it difficult to eat properly. The baby will get everything from your bm regardless of how you eat.
