I gradually stopped breastfeeding DS2 as he was losing interest. He was down to 1 feed a few weeks ago but now I've dropped that. He used to take water from an open cup but this week he's stopped taking that. I also can't get him to drink any milk. I've tried formula, cows milk , juice, water, warm juice. Also tried open cup and all kinds of beakers. He will sometimes take a couple of sips but usually hits the cup away and doesn't even let it near his mouth. DH said he took a full cup of water at breakfast from an open cup but only a few sips since then. He's had a couple of slightly damp mappies but not proper wees.

He eats really well.

I'm at my wits end, especially with the hot weather. Does anyone have any advice?

He does have yohurts and cheese etc so he's probably getting ebough calcium. It's the liquids I'm worried about.

Have you tried a bottle or a straw? I know you're not supposto give them to babies but they may do the trick once he works out how to suck through them. Don't leave him unattended with one though and make sure you hold it for him. If he's taking a couple of sips from a cup, let him do this and go back 5 mins later. Try not to get anxious, he'll pick up on this and use it as a game. You should take him to the GP if he's dry (dry mouth, nappies).

He didn't seem to be able to work out a straw. You're probably right about me getting anxious and stressing him though .. I feel like it's turning into a bit of a battle

Little bits often rather then big drinks. My ds would only drink breast milk. I had to try loads of different bottles and cups until I found the right one for him. The Heinz baby basics are good but the water can make a big mess so you'll have to give him a hand to hold it steady if you have not tried one of these already. You sound stressed, try not to worry. You'll find a way.
