Sore nipples in pregnancy - help

Also on pregnancy board!

Im 34 weeks and my nips are untouchable, so bad that last night I brushed against them with my pjs and that hurt. They're only ok in a bra (padding, nothing can brush!). Is this normal, and can I do anything to toughen them up? I'm concerned that if a feather-light touch hurts, bf will never work. Should I start with the lansinoh cream?

Hi I had this when I was pregnant and was able to BF. You shouldn't need to toughen up your nipples, Lansinoh is great to use in the early days when you do start to BF. Good luck with everything

I have this too (I am 27 weeks).

I wear a night time bra - it is a pain wearing a bra all the time, especially in this hot weather - but it helps.

Dont know if your breasts are leaking yet (mine did with both pg's)but breast milk is one of the best things you can use to help painful nipples and toughen them up a bit. Hope they get better soon.

I had this from very early on pg and my breasts started leaking at about 18 weeks IIRC. I found that wearing some breast pads in my maternity bra helped to minimise the sensation. DD is nearly one now and is still Bfed. I did use some lansinoh whilst I was pg but didn't need it once DD was born. I think that I was getting a bit sore from colostrum drying up on the tips of my sensitive nipples then brushing on my bra.
