i have only skim read as having battle getting ds2 4mo to bed. will see if i can link to online version.

essentially, says in developed countries like UK exclusive bf for 6 months with NO water, solids, formula then supplementary bf for 2 yrs is best.

all UK health professionals should prevent undermining of bf

Good to see this in the BMJ. I hope this will help educate GPs and others to stop giving mothers silly advice and promote bf as the normal/default option.

Ooh can you link to this so I can print it off and add it to a letter of complaint constructive criticism that I'm sending to my GP (who recently told me to stop bfing during ds' D&V bug).

here's an extract. You have to be a subscriber to see the fulltext. I have access so will try and dig some of it out later. It's a clinical review so presumably a good summary of current research positions.

yes, sorry, it is subscriber only, I didn't realise. you could just refer to 'last week's BMJ' in your letter and suggest he/she reads it to keep up to date? it does emphasise that NO other fluids or food should be given for 1st 6 months and promotes bf for 2 yrs.
