Sick after feed

My dd who is a twin and a week old seems to be having problems keeping some of her feeds down.

I did breastfeed both of them for the first five days but found it too exhausting as they rearly fed together and i also have ds who is 2 1/2 so was so tired all time both mentally and physically. We have put them both on formula Aptimel now and they seem to have taken to it well, although my ds has always been a bit sicky even when breastfed usually on a night not every feed though usually 2/3 per day she seems to be bringing quite a lot back up not projectile though. When she is taking her milk she seems to guzzling we have tried to stop her feeding and wind her every ounce and even tried infacol to see if it was her wind but nothing seems to be working. I have told the midwife about this and they do not seem overly concerned but we are.

Has this happened to anyone else ?

We thought that it may be the milk and tried her on SMA Gold but she was sick with this too, she was also sick with my breastmilk so dont really think it is the milk although we could be wrong.

Sound completely normal to me. Some babies are just sicky babies. Congratulations on the twins

Thank you for that lubyloo, she is passing water and having nice little poos and does not seem unwell.

Just needed to know if there was anything we should be worried about.

Thanks

As she is so little(were they full term ?) it is common for them to have a bit of reflux , where the stomach valve is immature and the contents come back at least provocation. Most babies outgrow it before it becomes a real issue for soem it may persist up to a year or more. Try feeding less more often and keeping her inclined not flat. If it is stilla problem in a few weeks and /or it affects her health , weight gain and behaviour there are treatments avialable to help hold the milk down and ease the effects of reflux.

An update on the sickness situation.

The midwife came last week and weighed Harry and Millie harry had put on 7oz and Millie 5oz, so she was not worried about her been sick.

She is still been sick after feeds though and Harry has been a few times too. We have tried stopping her after every oz winding her, infacol with her before feeds my midwife suggested changing the bottles, and we have tried different formulas.

Is there anything else people have found that helps ?

It is just so distressing for us with her been sick poor all the time.

Hiya...I totally sympathise, it can be really hard work with a baby who throws up alot!

My ds projectile vomited whole feeds up from about 3 weeks old...I was breastfeeding, and it just got too much...managed to get to 6 weeks before I caved in and gave him formula. After he would be sick he'd be rooting around again for more milk as his tummy would be empty. The dr said he had a form of reflux. The valve of his stomach wasnt mature enough to close after a feed, so it would all rush back up again. I had tried various different things such as keeping him upright after a feed, tilting the cot mattress or letting him sleep in the car seat/carrier (I know, naughty!), but none of it really made a difference! When I switched to formula I found his chucked this up to, until I found SMA Stay Down, I had to order it from Boots Chemist...it worked a treat. I believe it turns into a more solid consistency in the tummy which helps the baby to keep it down. I could switch to normal formula when he was about 6 months as his stomach valve had matured a bit and he wasnt as sicky! My dd is similar, but its not projectile, so Ive stuck with breastfeeding this time and just got used to changing both our clothes quite often! Shes now 8 months and hardly possets at all now!
