had anyone got an opinion/advice on hungry baby? my ds2 is 6wks and never, ever settles for more than 3 hours during the night(occasionaly has gone 4 hrs but rarely) and even less during day and i was wondering whether to try hungry baby formula for last feed at night(if u can call it last!)? i also partly breast feed but not at night and just thought maybe this would help fill him up better. i used it with first child i seem to remember but dont know at what stage. dont want to give him constipation or stomach ache though.is it wishful thinking to expect him to sleep longer than this? and has anypone got success stories for this formula?

bradcomp, what you're describing is well within normal limits for a baby of 6 weeks...some babies may sleep for longer than this, and some babies may wake up more often, and I would say your baby sounds really fairly average

The hungry baby formula has a higher proportion of tougher protein in it (casein), which takes longer for the baby to break down, though it doesn't always make much difference in practice.

Might be easier for you to work out ways of making this pattern of feeding easier for you, than to change your baby's milk....given that he's not doing anything so very terrible

Just MHO.

My DS had a similar feeding/sleeping pattern at 6 weeks (was exclusively breastfed). He had a problem settling in the evening and would be constantly feeding from say 6pm until 11pm, I started to give him a bottle of formula at 7pm and he then started to settle. Still woke every 3 hours in the night though. I managed to time it though so that this only meant 2 wake ups - around 1am and 4am. Sorry, I don't think that really answers your question! It was more like 14 weeks before he started to sleep for longer.

I would only go to hungry milk when your lo is having full bottles of first milk and is still looking for more. It is designed to hold off weaning until your lo is the correct age. If you use it too soon then when your lo gets hungrier you will have no other options to choose as you are already giving hungry milk. 3 hourly is pretty normal for this age though.

thanks for your replies. i too sort of time it so that he only usually wakes twice in night but i he seems hungry a lot of the time. the evenings he feeds almost constant from tea time to bedtime and then you would expect him to be knackered but hes not, today he hasnt even gone 3 hours between feeds and has only had short naps. my sister saw him and said her baby was like that and she tried the next step milk.

My baby was exactly the same, fed three hourly (if i was lucky) at this age. On the advice of a friend tried hungry baby milk, but it made no difference at all. Went back to first milk and his feeding settled down within a few weeks. He naturally started going longer between feeds and taking more.

He is now 17 weeks and i am looking a hungry baby milk now to hold off weaning him yet.
