Infant feeding

question for +6mo BF-ers please

DS is 7.5 mo, still BF and still showing little signs of giving up. he started on some solids, then has totally lost interest the last few weeks (also cut front 2 teeth, which may be partly why i guess). Am not stressing too much about the lack of solids after learning on here that milk is still pretty much fulfilling what he needs still at the moment, so I keep offering food but not stressing if he doesn't want it, and letting him play about with the food and spoon (yes, intersting looking kitchen floor 3 times a day!). I've also been trying to make the switch to formula, with little success so far.

My real question is, he's a really crap sleeper, he falls asleep on the boob mainly at nap times and bed-time, wakes 2-3 times in the night still (if I'm lucky, - sometimes it can be more) and has two full feeds in the middle of the night. I don't have a problem as such with him feeding to sleep (altho' I know i need to watch the teeth now with cleaning them), as I feel mother nature didn't make all that lovely oxytocin to relax us both and make us sleepy only for me to wake him up and make him fall asleep by himself, but I suppose I'm looking for reassurance that I haven't indeed taught him dreadful sleep associations and that eventually he will learn to fall asleep himself once he no longer needs the milk for the calories once he's onto more solids.

Sometimes he wakes up now and is upset as if he's not sure why he's woken up anymore, so it's habit and not necesarily needing to feed each time. Please, please share any experiences of your babes starting to fall asleep and stay asleep without the dependency on the boob, even if it was a long way off from 7.5mo, just to give me some reassurance he'll get there. TIA.

He will get there. DD2 has only started sleeping through from 8pm to 7.30am now she is one. I started weaning her at 6 mo but it's a slow process and some take a few months to get the hang of it. DD2 is still having 4 bfeeds a day. Sounds like you're doing fine, just continue as you are and one day you'll be missing the night feeds!

ds1 gradually dropped nighttime wakings/feeds between about 10 and 18 months. He bf to sleep for longer, but around his 2nd birthday he started feeding only briefly, then not at all, and asking to 'go to bed'. Et voila - literally overnight we could put him to bed awake and he drops off by himself.

He didn't eat much in the way of solids until about 11 months, either. Now has a healthy appetite and eats most things.
