Infant feeding

Is my DS abnormally hungry??

DS is 10 weeks on Wednesday and still waking at between 1-2am and 4-5am for feeds, even after we give him a dream feed between 10-11pm.

Is there anything we can do to get him to sleep for longer at night? He is pretty predictable during the day and needs feeding at around 7, 10, 1 and 4, so ends up having 8 feeds a day of around 5oz each.

Surely 40oz a day is too much for a 10 week old? Should we be giving him the hungry baby formula? Would that help him sleep longer or does he just need food that regularly?

(I know he's not doing it to inconvenience us but perhaps it's habit rather than true hunger in the night... I don't begrudge him, it's just hard when increasingly I hear other mums with babies the same age say theirs are sleeping through the night .)

Think of it this way, really you are not "meant" to know how much he's actually drinking. The best thing for him IMO is to stick to feeding him on demand, he knows what's best for him and he's still very very small.

My DS will be 11 weeks on Weds and still wakes at 12, 2, 4 and 6. He feeds (BF) on average every hour to hour and a half during the day. I would LOVE him to drop one of the night feeds but alas I cant see that happening for a while. You are not alone!!

It's probably worth trying the hungry baby formula - we switched with DS2 (and DS3) and it made a huge difference (although DS3 is now 18 weeks and going through approx 40oz in 12hrs - eeek).
