I've been told today I need a small operation, booked for next month BUT the nurse in the clinic told me I'd need to express milk for a while afterwards to throw away . Also I'll need to have a store of milk to feed baby while anaesthetic still in my system so told to expect to do a lot of expressing.

Has anyone got any recent experience of this? I've got a couple of weeks till my pre-assessment appointment so I'll get to discuss it more there hopefully. Just want to go with as much info as possible.

Thanks

I haven't had any experience with this, but kellymom is always a really good site. The page I have linked has information on bf and GA

If you are awake then the anaesthetic has left your system & will therefore not be present in your milk either. You will be fine to bf as soon as you feel able to do so and aren't taking any other drugs that are contraindicated for bfing.

terramum is right. I have had two D&Cs for mcs under GA while bf. I was told I did not have to pump and dump.
