Nursing strike or weaning?

My 18mo has been down to one feed a day (at bedtime) for a few weeks now. Last week he got a cold and was finding laying down a struggle with his nose. He totally stopped wanting to bf at bedtime and was satisfied with a cuddle. I wasn't sure if this was the cold or what but I followed his lead (he has had colds before and usually still feeds in a more upright position but he wasn't interested when I tried this).

This evening he asked for breast again for the first time in 5/6 days so I offered but he became very agitated and ended up screaming. He did latch on for maybe a minute but then broke off and became upset. He ended up falling asleep with a cuddle again. I'm not sure whether he asked out of habit then remembered he doesn't want it, if he did want it but his cold is still bothering him or if maybe there wasn't much milk as he's not fed for so long and he was frustrated.

I have no experience of this at all - does this sound like he is self - weaning or a nursing strike? And if it's a strike how can I get him back on without upsetting him?

He could be Weaning, but it would be on the early side. Has he got any teeth coming through or a sore throat or ear infection?

Yes he is teething - perhaps it's that?
