Hi,
It's 3am baby has been feeding for hours with no nap inbetween ( No sleep for me) he's only days old and we had problems breastfeeding until a couple of days ago. Just after a bit of moral support until he does sleep probably in the morning .

I really hope you manage some sleep later this morning. Do you have anyone with you?

Who have you had help with on the feeding?

The reason I ask is myfirst dd fed for ages and then only slept for short times. Over the six weeks I was told latch was perfect by midwives, HV, breastfeeding peer supports and breastfeeding support geoup workers. Finally I saw a LC who diagnosed posterior tt and lip tieeaning my dd wasn’t efficiently removing milk and was therefore having to feed all of the time to gain weight/get enough milk

Has he been checked for tongue tie? Whilst long feeding sessions are normal in the early days (he’s stimulating your milk supply and building it up) feeding non-stop for hours could mean he’s got an ineffective latch, and so needs to suck more to get the same amount of milk.

Get in touch with La Leche League and they should be able to point you in the right direction. Just keep an eye on wet and dirty nappies, and that the fontanelle doesn’t dip.

Perhaps try and get hold of a community midwife today if you can, just to check the latch and see if your baby is actually getting any milk. Are they gaining weight? You have my sympathies op the early days are exhausting but it sounds like you are doing really well preserving with breast feeding. I only managed a couple of days both times! Congratulations on your newborn. Thanks
