Overfeeding a 2mo?

I remember my HV , and pretty much everyone else, encouraged us to feed on demand, which is what I have been doing with my little one since birth. He has been weighted twice in the past week and a half, yesterday and 10 days ago as we visited GP because of other feeding concerns (reflux). He gained 400 grammes in those 10 days and went up a percentile. We currently have a 'target' of 600 ml in a 24 hour period based on his weight, used to be around 525 two weeks ago, but even then he sometimes hit 650-700 two weeks ago already, which I attributed to growth spurt. Now I am thinking maybe we should have curbed his appetite?

Have you tried giving him cooled boiled water? My LO would feed every hour if he could (about the same age) but sometimes he's just thirsty

If you’re breastfeeding do not give anything else and continue to demand feed. Babies are meant to gain weight. Rising up percentiles if he as a small baby is normal.
If he’s formula fed, speak to your HV again for a safe and specific feeding plan. Few GPs are expert on infant nutrition. Your HV will be more informed.

Just don’t start restricting the diet of a tiny baby without proper advice.

My son went up to 95th percentile from 50th at 6 weeks old to 8 weeks, I was quite alarmed but they didn't seem bothered and he evened out again after a couple of months. I don't believe a baby will eat if they don't need it. He's a string bean now but was always hungry as a baby and was very chunky and squishy. I'd try and speak to a health visitor they'll give you advice over the phone.

Reflux babies often overfeed to relieve the discomfort of acid coming back up. However overfeeding can make reflux worse so I think you are right to be concerned about overfeeding if you suspect your baby has reflux. I'd see the HV or GP again for advice as you don't want to be limiting the size of feeds without a proper diagnosis.

From past experience I would be wary of relying too much on the equation they use to calculate amounts of formula based on baby's weight - it's a very conservative amount and doesn't allow for babies who naturally need to cross centile lines to reach the weight they were designed to be. My first was born on 25th but crossed to 75th by 8weeks, we were told by hospital we were over feeding & put baby strictly on the amounts of formula they calculated. Poor child drained every bottle in a flash & was miserable, every instinct in me wanted to give more but I did what hospital said instead. Later looked at red book & reLysed baby was born on 91st for height and head, so weight was just naturally catching up. Gutted I restricted feeding. Baby is now a slim & healthy toddler. Def look at the bigger picture and not just weight gain alone
