Infant feeding

Make me feel better! Night feeding (bottles) at 10mo

I seem to be surrounded by friends whose babies have slept through the night since 6 wks and I am feeling like there is something really weird about ds as he always has at least one, if not two, night feeds.
Is this unusual?!!
(Btw: I'm not asking for advice on how to change this as, although a complete night's sleep would be lovely, we don't have any inclination to force him to change this just for our benefit; I just want to feel we're not alone, surely some other babies don't sleep all night from 7pm to awake at 7am!!)

My first two slept through by 6-8 weeks, my twins didn't until far later. He'll drop it when he is ready and you aren't the only one. We didn't force the dts netiher, jsut slowly tried to discourage it a bit.

scoobyc - everyone has got friends like these...

no it's not normal for a child to sleep 7 -7am at 6 weeks.

speak to any midwife and they'll tell you to wake your child at night and feed/change them is case there is something wrong! lol!

i think at 6 weeks they should still be feeding, playing, changing, sleeping every four or so hours.

i breastfed all of mine and they can sleep-feed! try getting as much rest as possible and sleeping when baby is sleeping. if you want to get around a bit more use a sling (my fav, is hug-a-bub), which means baby is comfortable and portable.

hth

by the way after having three children i can now sleep anywhere (that sounds rude!) and can get to deep sleep within seconds!
: )

Thanks chaps, I'm not the only one!
Piglit - I really can't see ds dropping his night feeds anytime soon so I'm sure he will still be doing it at 18mo!

If my 11 month old goes to bed before 7pm - I give her a dream feed before I go to bed at about 10-11pm ish - if she goes to bed later than 7pm I give her a bottle in her PJ's and put her down -may only get 4 ozs in to her but it keeps her going. My lo is on the little side - 20th centile 17lbs 4oz. She doesn't wake a second time. TBH when she wakes at 6:30 - 7am she is not staving and does not screech for a bottle - she did start waking at 4:30 /5am a few nights but i let her cry for a couple of minutes and she settled herself, now she goes through till the morning.

Just had an earful from my SIL telling me to give formula to my 6 month old who is waking 2-3 times a night. She slept through 5-14 weeks. I reaaly am not convinced that FF is the answer to longer sleep many FF babies wake through the night, but my SIL thinks I am wrong...

Tapster, my nearly 6 mo bf dd has just started waking in the night again and she'll feed and usually go back to sleep but I'm pretty sure it's teething pain waking her up. Could this be the problem?

Tapster - tell SIL to butt out, it's b*x IMO. When ds went from bm to ff it made no diff to him waking in the night.

My DD2 still wakes around 3ish, but is bf. Then again at 6:30 ish and is up.

I do wonder if she would settle again if i left her at 3am, but worry she'll wake dd1 so just feed her
