Green Poop and Comfort Milk

We changed DD to comfort milk last night, and she has gripe water added in to the formula (5 bottles per day) to help with colic / constipation / reflux problems. (She is also on colic drops?)

The difference in her today was unreal, so content and happy again.

Then the crap hit the fan tonight...
DD very unsettled from dinner onwards, extremely gassy and it stinks, straining and very pent up and ridged. Like this for 3 hours or so with a little green poop in between but then we got a poonami of dark green loose seedy poop... And it required a gas mask.

DD still extremely unsettled and only sleeping in my arms. 😖

I'm wondering if the comfort milk and gripe water is just too much and the milk is passing through her stomach / gut too quickly?

I have Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA) and your DD seems to be displaying quite a few of the signs. Have a read of this factsheet on CMPA from Allergy UK and let us know what you think Smile

Yes, I'm very aware of this as there is an intolerance running in my family but my instinct (which may well be wrong) doesn't think it is. No healthcare professionals have been concerned with it either. Definitely something to keep in mind however as it's a long term intolerance in my family, ie they don't grow out of it.

The green poop only arrived yesterday after switching her milk and adding gripe water. I stopped the gripe water last night - so going to see how today goes. If no better I'll look at switching her formula back and, if she improves, slowly adding in the gripe water for her gas etc. I've completely removed the colic drops having read online there is little evidence to support their success.

I hate that us parents are expected to trial and error these things with our LO instead of GPs etc being a little more helpful.

Will report back!

How old is she? The poo you describe is what we had when we switched DS to Hipp comfort milk so it's probably that.
I do remember we only used gripe water a couple of times as it didn't seem to agree with him.
We had so many nappy explosions that leaked with the comfort milk (very messy) so after about a month switched back to normal Hipp.

Green poo under these circumstances sounds totally normal. DD has cmpa and our pediatrician told us that the only colour poo to worry about it black and white, everything else is normal.

It's probably just her belly adjusting. Green poo isn't really something to worry about (people used to think it was). I'd continue for a little longer if I were you. My 18 month old has cmpa and silent reflux so I am familiar with poo and angry babies!

She's 5 weeks now.

Not had any dirty nappies since I posted this...
