Gave baby bottle with in-sterilised bottle - didn’t realise steriliser had broken!

My tommee tippee steam steriliser has broken. We put it on last night, and went to bed. I made a bottle up first thing this morning, as I finished I noticed the steriliser light was on. I just assumed I must have pressed it then by accident so turned it off and gave her the bottle. later this morning husband re-loaded the steriliser and turned on. I just noticed the light was still on, about half an hour after he had turned on. We realised then that it has stopped working, and the light I noticed this morning must have been on since last night, meaning the bottles had not been sterilised overnight and I fed her with an unsterilised bottle. We don’t have a dishwasher so the bottle was only hand washed in warm soapy water the night before. She is 5 months next week and teething badly so everything she can grab is going straight in her mouth... husband reckons because of this, we need not worry about the unsterilised bottle...

But should I be concerned that she could get ill from this? I’m worried that it was quite wet inside the steriliser overnight and bacteria could have grown 😕

Not a lot I can do now but I’m a bit nervous.

As you have already said you can't do anything about it now so try not to worry too much. One time using an un-sterilised bottle which had been washed is unlikely to be a problem.

Your husband is right. Plus, you have washed it, so try not to worry too much: it wasn't a dirty bottle.

She’s likely to be fine. Sterilising bottles is important let’s try as it’s the milk that can cause really nasty bacteria.. not the same as baby just putting stuff in their mouth.
But I wouldn’t worry about one bottle that was washed in soapy water.. it will be fine.
Do keep sterilising because of the milk bacteria reason though

I’m in the US and they don’t advise sterilizing bottles at all here. Just washing them. I own a microwave sterilizer and my friends think I’m paranoid. One bottle at 5 months old will be fine!

I used to boil bottles in a pan of water to sterilise them: you don't need any special equipment. I wouldn't worry though about the one bottle; she'll most likely be fine,

There is a very very teeny tiny chance she would get ill from that, so do not worry! Like your DH has said, she is eating all sorts from the floor and all the nooks and crannies you can’t get into. She will be fine, just chuck her bottles in Milton until you can get a new steriliser. And it is not your fault at all that your steriliser broke so try not to be too hard on yourself x
