Fussing and wriggling when feeding

I am b/f my 15week dd

5 mins into each feed she is wriggling and getting frustrated, pulling and trying to knead my boob, she flails her arms and legs. When I take her off of the breast to wind her she gets upset.

I have checked the following;

Wind - she doesn't bring any up and I can't hear it

Teeth - There's no signs that she is teething

Sleep - she is sleeping okay

I usually try latching her back on another 4 or five times and then swap sides and she does the same again after 5 mins.

Is there anything I can do to improve the situation?

I think the majority of babies behave as you describe about this age tbh. I think they just think it's more fun than keeping still!

I just can't remember dd1 being like this

May have to resort to duck taping her to the boob if she keeps it up

Dunno if it will do any good but you can buy breastfeeding necklaces that you wear and they can twiddle with while they are feeding ,Might keep her mind on something else for the time she is feeding rather than wriggling about.Could just try a cheap chunky long necklace from River island or Top shop I suppose as long as they are strong and nothing can come off.Just a thought.

mine does this every evening when tired and tanking up for night time - it goes on for ages! I take her off a few times and when she is calm I put her back on, eventually she relaxes and feeds normally.

My dd was exactly the same at this age. It is really frustrating I remember.

Sounds like more than just being distracted by surroundings.

Ditto! DD started same thing and I just have to persevere and eventually she settles down although that last feed is really wearing. Wondering whether teething related at all??

Yes it may well be that she is getting frustrated that the flow is not quick enough.

Anyone know if I should just swap her to the other breast as soon as she starts fussing? and then swapping her back until she is fed?

Margo - the more I think about it the more I think it might be teething. Looking at pic of DD I took today and she has VERY pink cheeks.. Kellymom is just great, thanks for link Bumbleweed. Margo, I tried swapping from breast to breast at tonight's feed and it seemed to do the trick. Just back and forth a bit as seems to be the left one she always gets frustrated with first. Its all such a mystery isn't it??
