Infant feeding

bfeeding on demand at 9/10 months

In my NCT group I am the only one bfeeding much during the day.(dd is 10 months) I usually feed before meals as dd ofthe demands it, plus I have been told that babes derive most of their nutrition from the milk rather than food up to one year...seems the more natural way. However HVs seem to advise the other way around...bfeed after meals to make sure they are hungry for solids.

Who is right? I imagine things happen gradually, not overnight. However, only 2 more months before she's a year. I'm just letting things go their natural course and expect dd will demand bfeed a lot less soon/ She is teething at the moment...

If your DD is thriving and eating her meals well I would do whatever you feel is right for you. Don't let anyone else dictate to you what is right or wrong.

My DD2 is now 6m and she has decided she no longer wants to BF, and I'm certainly not going to force it on her!

If you want to try and feed her solids first then BF do it, if your happy doing it your way and as I said above if she is thriving then don;t worry, you will not be harming her.

I have no idea what's right, but if it works for you and your DD that's good enough. I am in a similair position, DS2 coming up 10 months, still b/f during the day when he wants it, fed 2 or 3 times during the night also. Some people are expressing surprise that I am still feeding him myself, but not in an unfriendly way, IYSWIM.

If DD is thriving, wet and dirty nappies, eating solids as well, just keep doing what you are doing!
