Weird things your baby does while breastfeeding

DD is just shy of 9 months, and still mostly breastfed, but I have a feeling she will wean herself off before one as she is so keen on proper food, so I am making the most of these months.

She doesn't half do some weird things while feeding though. I feed her to sleep and we cosleep so I am lying next to her. She likes to caress the boob she isn't feeding from just as she is falling asleep, but prior to this she practices her pincer grip on the nipple which hurts like hell, and although I'm proud of her developing motor skills I'm not enough of a martyr to just let her, so she just moves on to the rest of the boob, looking at me devilishly and grinning with the other breast in her mouth.

When she was a newborn she would open her mouth incredibly wide and trash her head side to side going cross eyed looking for the nipple and then lunge in for the kill, seeming really excited. It was such a funny face I wish I had filmed her.

She also now has started to roll onto her tummy and gets her legs into a crawling position and shuffles back and forth, all while still latched on, which combined with what I can only describe as a crocodile death roll against my side (presumably to get me to move up) is getting pretty tiresome at nap time, but is thoroughly amusing.

A friends baby used to direct the nipple into her mouth like she was delicately holding a straw which was hilarious to see, her dd really examining it twisting and turning before latching on.

Anyone else have a baby that does strange things while feeding?

This made me chuckle, my DD does all these things apart from the crocodile roll, I'm awaiting it though, if she's anything like her brothers. Grin

Yep, DD caresses and pinches the other boob. Also likes to punch the other boob. She also twists herself so her feet are on my head and her bum is in the air- this is whilst I breastfeed laying down.

Sometimes when a teddy is nearby, she will come off boob, grab teddy and make the teddy feed from my boob. She's so funny.

My 14mth old goes for my hair when he's feeding, not just any bit but a little curl I have on the nape of my neck. Hurts like hell if he gets a good grip. If you look him in the eye when he's feeding he gets proper belly giggles, doesn't stop feeding just chuckles away it feels really weird.

One of mine used to pop off the boob to look backwards round to the room as if looking for an audience...

When I feed in bed in the morning my son likes to put his hand out for my husband to hold. It's almost like he doesn't want him to be left out. Such a cutie!

Ah this is making me emotional, DS is barely feeding now so I'm going to stop in a couple of weeks. (He's 10 months, I wanted to keep going but I can tell I'm drying up.) he still needles me like a kitten though, pinching the boob and sticking his nails in with his eyes closed, painful but cute! I miss the early 'milk drunk' days though

Oh yes, the teeny tiny baby attacking your boob like a small terrier shaking a rat. While oinking.

My ds is 9 months and is a major hair puller, he can take chunks of my hair out while he is feeding and with no warning! I don't feed him much during the day now because he tends to catch my eye and laugh and then stop feeding!

my 4 month old has started doing a roundhouse slap of the other boob during feeding but only when we are both half asleep.

Oh yes the milky drunky face. DD still does it occasionally. She's 1.5

Nice to know I'm not the only one being used as a punchbag! And the milky drunk face is THE BEST. Anyone else like to smell their baby's milky breath? I was so sad when we started weaning that it wouldn't last, it's such an intoxicatingly lovely smell, though dd no longer really appreciates me being up in her face for a whiff.

Oh I miss milk drunk and milk breath too!
We're 10 months in and he kind of sings and hums whilst feeding which I find cute 😊

Aww my DS has done most of the things you listed at one point or another. 10 months old now and dropped a couple of day feeds but still has nights where he likes to be fully attached.

My favourite thing EVER is when he caresses the other boob up and down with the palm then back of his hand while feeding. It's just so loving and gentle it makes me well up 😍

I also love when his eyes roll to the back of his head for the first few moments of a feed, like it's this euphoric drug he's drinking.

His latest thing is face planting on my boob. He just falls in the general direction of my nipple with his mouth wide open. Pretty amusing!

God I'll miss breastfeeding when he stops :( already emotional at the fact he's cut down on day feeds.
