Infant feeding

Is this a blocked milk duct?

DS is 6 days old, yesterday he slept for a long time after a traumatic blood test in the morning and my boobs suddenly felt SO painful and hot and full, then I got shivery and got scared of getting mastitis so woke him, fed like a beast, had a bath where milk was just leaking the whole time, took painkillers and it went away! However my left boob is still very red and latching is agony (latching on both is painful tbf due to early lazy latching and sore nipples but right side is pretty ok now). It also feels lumpy but can't feel an individual lump if you know what I mean, also he's feeding lazily on that side, it's slow and lacklustre whereas on my right side I can hear him gulping!
I'm trying to always feed from the left first, not sure if that's the right idea? Does it sound like a blocked milk duct?? I don't want to end up lopsided!

I think it sounds similar to when I had a blocked duct! I sorted it out in the end with a hot shower and then strangely enough...I hung myself off the side of my bed and massaged the bad boob and it worked! Maybe it was the gravity or the weight being shifted but the relief was obvious! Sounds odd but I think I got the tip on mumsnet Grin

I had that with my DD, a lactation consultant advised gently stroking the boob with a soft baby's hairbrush towards the nipple. Sounds bizarre but it did work!
