Hi - My baby is 3 weeks old, and we are struggling to get him back to his birth weight. We have an appointment with the NHS because he has a tongue tie, but we can't get in until June! Wondering if any of you have any guidance on a private tongue tie consultant. Feeling overwhelmed because it's the last thing that I want to do, but I know he will benefit as breastfeeding is hard for him and he is getting very gassy from the bottle. Thanks!

We had DS' tongue tie snipped by a private midwife. She was recommended to us when he was 10 days old and we call her on the Tues afternoon & she came Thursday morning. She wrapped him in a towel and snipped the tie in the kitchen, he cried for a few seconds but then he fed properly for the first time. It was definitely worth getting it done privately & so early

Whereabouts in the country are you? Can recommend a couple of people if you're anywhere near me.

I suggest you look on the ATP website:
www.tongue-tie.org.uk/Mobile/m-private-tongue-tie-practitioners.html

We found someone via the website to divide DS's tongue tie and she was excellent.

Hi - Thank you.

@FraterculaArctica we are in London (Queens Park, northwest London)

I had looked at the ATP website, but would like a bit more of a recommendation than just the practitioners that are listed :)

Hello Ake my daughter had her tongue tie diagnosed and a frenulotomy performed privately. Both by professionals based near London. Not sure how I PM you the details or indeed if you're still looking for someone?

I am also interested in this please, our son is 11 weeks and really struggling to feed and not gaining weight effectively. I've looked at the tongue tie pages and he fits almost all of the criteria. He also had an anterior one cut at day 8.

We used Ann Dobson for both my children (cut the eldest's on my sofa, advised that the youngest's didn't need doing so won't cut unnecessarily!). It's a very quick simple procedure so please don't worry about having it done!

Katie Fisher and Rene Bozier also get recommended a lot in my local area but we are SE London so it might be a bit far for you.

We saw Rachel Fitz-D for a consultation and diagnosis (http://rachelfitzd.com/) and found her input incredibly helpful (she is an infant feeding and tongue tie specialist based in Reading but will travel). We've since bought her book that's just been published and it's fantastic as it helps you to understand your baby and therefore reduces the stress and confusion in those very difficult early weeks and beyond (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Baby-Wise-Learn-trust-instincts/dp/1910336319)?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21. I've bought so many baby books but this is the only I've read cover to cover as it's so useful - I felt enlightened and so much more confident in what I am doing.

Rachel recommended Kathryn Weymouth to release the tongue tie and she travelled to us in the south west (she's based in Hampshire) to perform a frenulotomy (http://www.independentmidwives.com/). She was very thorough, explained everything clearly, answered our questions and reassured us. We were very happy with the service she provided and would thoroughly recommend. Even with travel expenses the cost was very reasonable and we were much calmer having the procedure done at home where everyone is more relaxed and there's no travel, traffic and car parking to worry about.

I wish everyone reading this who has a baby with TT all the best and happy to answer any questions you may have Smile

Moomin37 I'm interested to know how the feeding went after you had it revised. I'm afraid my son will have learned the incorrect way to feed.

Not sure if you are still looking but a friend had both her DCs' TTs cut by Yvonne Inish who practices in NW london and would recommend her.

Hi Basket it took a couple of weeks for the tongue to 'power up' but since then the feeding has improved significantly 😊 We have reduced from 8 x 60ml top-ups a day to just two 30ml top ups and the weight gain is fine and still following the same percentile 😀

That's great news, I hope it works for us.
