Infant feeding

3week old, getting angry when feeding

DS is 3.5 weeks old and is EBF (had a bottle of formula last night as I was exhausted)

Last few days DS isn't feeding as well as he was, pulling off the breast after a short time, getting angry, throwing his head back etc.

He's also started to vomit after every feed (and even during feeds) - should I've worried?

He's very farty Blush and it seems as though he struggles to poo (goes bright red, strains, gets angry etc) but this rarely results in a poo. He will do a big poo every 1-2 days.

Does this sound normal? Could it be reflux?

I didn't even read to your questions at the end before I was thinking reflux. Has he been feeding ok and latching well til now and gaining weight ok?

But AFAIK, it's fairly normal that BF babies don't poo every day.

He had gone from 7lbs 3ozs to7lbs 15ozs from week1 to week 2. HV said I could weigh every two weeks as he'd gained so well. So our next weigh in is tomorrow.

I can hear him swallowing when he's not feeding (just sitting up etc), and he has hiccups a lot.

Today he's hardly been on the breast at all Sad my DS1 had silent reflux but I suspect it was undiagnosed TT and possibly dairy intolerance. He wasn't sick, just angry after feed and constantly feeding(FF as BF was too painful) until weaned.

He hasn't fed properly since 9.30am....he's very sleepy. Had some wet nappies. Should I be worried?

Hi Sing, I hope your LO is settling? I think it's quite common to have a fussy phase at this age however I think it's worth checking for reflux and also for tongue tie. Your local baby cafe can check for tongue tie. I hope you're sorted soon x

HV came to check, off to drs. Thanks everyone.

Sometimes it's a lot of the feed (it looks like it anyway)

He's had two 15 minute feeds since 9.30am. Still no poo.

Still not settled. Well sleepy until he's hungry (twice since this morning), then cries but is not comforted by the boob. Crying after a short feed.

I go to a BF cafe, will get them to check Thursday.

They are going to pop a suppository up his bottom and see if he feeds after a big poo.

No one seems to be concerned about dehydration. I'm on my own, DH is at home with DS1. Tired. Hungry. Thirsty. Stuck in a storage room...feeling very teary.

He's like a different baby! He's alert, eyes open etc. Still feeding!

I'm baffled! He's still being observed, hopefully the drs have an idea

Oh no Sadcould it be an intolerance? Quite a few baby's are intolerant/allergic to cows milk protein/soy?

Report
SingToMeInFrench · 24/04/2017 23:23

The HV did suggest an intolerance - the drs haven't said anything....

Gosh this sounds tough, good that he feed well after that big poo but not good it's started again.

My DS struggled with my flow which made him angry at the boob and would bring up his feeds regularly when that age- I'm not sure if that's relevant to you give the poo concerns. DS has never pooed everyday always every couple then when he goes he'll have a few big poos.

Keep asking questions till you are happy with the answers.

PS my babies didn't like it when I ate citrus fruit - just in case that helps x
