Hungry Milk at 8 weeks?

Lo is on Aptamil first milk.

Advice for his weight is 6oz 5 times a day but there is no stretching him more than 3 & half hours, sometimes 2 & half at night.
Do you really need advice of GP before switching?
Has anyone had experience of switching, even if just for night feeds?

Don't do it. At 8 weeks it is perfectly mormal for a baby to feed that often. Babies know how much milk they need by volume not calories.

The advice is demand feed so don't try and stretch out the feeds just feed when your baby is hungry,

I've never formula fed, but surely it's normal for babies that young to need to eat way more than 5 times a day?

Both my DS were like this. Ignore the 'advice' on the back of the pack. At 8 weeks old baby's do not go more than about 3 hours in between a feed. It's a myth that formula fed babies go longer in between feeds.

You can try it but it had no effect on my DS other than to give him bad constipation (it's thicker).

My advice would be not to switch, the gaps in between your LOs feeds will get longer when they get longer.

Yeh I am feeding more than 5 times, I'm just really confused. Was afraid I would overfeed baby. Thanks for advice. Will relax now & feed when he needs it without stressing out.

When we had to swap to ff I had the same concerns about the guidelines. Hv said she would expect a baby to need a minimum of 6 feeds a day. I think DD was listening in and a 6 months she seems to think hv said 6 bottles a night. You got to love a growth spurt.

Sometimes, when they want to feed very frequently in the day, they are happy to go through the night. Does baby drain the bottle each time? And do you offer more?

Sometimes but a lot of the time half an ounce or ounce is left.

Ok, as long as he is having as much as he wants at each feed. Does he fill up all day, then go better at night? Unless he puts on loads more weight than he should, and not just a growth spurt, then I'd let him feed when he wants.
Oh, does he have a dummy? Is he feeding to soothe rather than because he is hungry?

He has a dummy. I give him more during day & during night I cut it back a couple of ounces, some nights are better than others. He is a big baby & I can't see him ever missing a feed through the night!
