Is Sudofed ok to take whilst breastfeeding?

Hi

I am feeling really rough and my head feels like it's going to explode. I've taken some paracetomol but it hasn't helped at all.

Does anyone know if sudofed is safe to take whilst breastfeeding?

Thanks

Lucy

I'm pretty sure the answer is no to this one. I seem to remember not being able to take anything more than paracetamol for a cold. Hopefully someone else will no for definate.

Categorically not! It will dry up your milk. Sorry, but no decongestant is OK while breastfeeding. There's a website which lists cold remedies compatible with bfing - I'll look for it.

Here it is:

good bfing site

Thank you so much for your prompt replies, I was just about to take my first tablet. I went to the chemist earlier to get something else and whilst I was there asked them if there was anything I could take to clear my head that was safe whilst BF... the assistant said "yes, I sold sudofed to a bfing lady earlier" .

So glad I checked on here.

I'll have a look at that website - thanks

Lucy

Actually, you can take Sudafed if you're careful. The kellymom site gives the info.

To paraphrase, as prettycandles says, it can reduce your milk supply so if that's a problem then best avoid, but apparently most women are not affected this way.

I have taken decongestant numerous times. I am still desperately trying to get dd to stop breastfeeding as she was two yesterday. Enuff said, methinks

Ah ok, yeah just looked at the link now, my DD is 1 on Sunday so maybe it will be ok?

Thanks

Lucy

Bugger - my health visitor told me nothing but paracetamol for a cold. I suffered needlessly

Definatley yes - as PC says there is a risk of reduced mikk production, but the occasional tablet once supply is well established is not an issue
