Infant feeding

Owwww.

My 7 mo has always kneaded my boob. Presumably as some sort of method to increase milk flow.

However it has started to hurt. I'm covered in scratches and tiny cuts on boob. She will do the same on my arm and body under boob. I've tried to put clothes in the way or my hands but it's harder on a night when I'm tired.

But I physically wince sometimes. When it's particularly bad I shout owwww and no. But I don't want to continually do this and have her associate this with feeding as she always looks shocked. Also I don't want to get her out of her sleepy state on a night by shouting loudly but it's agony and not enjoyable.

Right now I'm sat here prickly covered in scratches. Her nails are as short as I can get them.

While I'm on here 5 wk to 5 months sleep was great. For 7 weeks I barely slept then it improves slightly. Now she's up about every 1.5 to 2 hours in the night. I struggle to get her in her own bed after wake ups. Happy to come sleep as we both get rest but I don't sleep properly and my back aches in the morning

Reassurance please. I can't be the only one. Right?

She's going through a mum please don't leave the room phase too.

Night time consists of Bath. Story. Nursery rhyme and quiet feeding with no electrical light or night lights etc

All sounds about normal. I ended up getting bed guards and co-sleeping when my LO was up every 2 hours. I'd rather wake up in the morning with a bad back then spend the next day half asleep because I was up and down moving the LO to her bed.

When she is tugging an scratching you while feeding, just stay calm give it 5 mins while you stay still and she will stop. Or move your blanket a bit between both of your bodies. I found it incredibly grating, my LO even used to kick me in the vagina and stomach which hurt but I realised I was just gonna have to accept it and stop getting wound up and then it stopped bothering me, mine is 9 months an she still does it but if I stay still she calms down very fast.

Why are you leaving the room though? Or do you mean at night time for her to sleep?

Sorry it should've said I'm happy to come sleep but get bad back

She doesn't like me leaving the room. At the mo during the day. Same with her dad. I am still and calm each time she does the scratching, nipping and pulling etc but it will go on for the duration.

Oh yes kicking etc I've had when she's too excited to feed on a night and I just leave her to it with me until she's ready. That I can cope with as I'm just in the way. The other just makes my eyes water x
Thank you

My 6 month old does this and it huuuuurts!! The worst is when she pushes the boob away kneading/grabbing with her hand and simultaneously pulls her head back (she's always preferred a shallow latch Confused)... Ouch sore nipples!! I've tried giving her all sorts to hold/fiddle with but it doesn't help! I'm not sure if staying still would help either as she's calm when she does it! Glad I'm not the only one anyway :)
Oh and my DD is currently up all the time at night at the moment too, just when I thought we'd come through the 4 month regression!!! My back also aches after co sleeping so I'm trying not to but it's hard!! We're also away visiting family at the moment (for a month! Confused) so DD is in our room, having just moved to her own room at home, which im sure isn't helping the sleep situation!!!

I found that a nursing necklace helped with the scratching, but it stopped eventually. The sleep we're still working on at 19 months... My LO often feeds to sleep during the night so everyone gets the maximum amount of sleep, but is falling asleep more with us just stroking his back or similar.

Tumtitum. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you
I'm sorry you're going through this but it's nice to know I'm not the only one. Scratching is getting a bit better. I noticed sharp corners on nails so tried to get rid of them.

I haven't managed to get my baby in own room. She's up too much at the mo I'm not in a rush either. I know everything goes in phases so I'm hoping it's a phase. I co sleep to get sleep or put baby in with me to avoid her getting upset in the night I also just don't want to put myself through it.

I hope you're ok
