Introducing a night time formula feed?

Hello,

Just looking for some advice. My DC4 is 10 weeks and I'm thinking about a regular night time bottle of formula. Last night he had 4oz at around 10pm and slept until 6am Xmas Grin

You'd think with hi being my fourth that I'd know what to do but my DC3 was a complete bottle refuser who also had a milk allergy so I breastfed for a long time as there were very limited other options.

I'm a bit worried that if he has a formula bottle every night then it'll be a slippery slope to the end of breastfeeding. I'm happy to and would like to breastfeed until at least 6 months hence my concern but at the same time, I would like the extra sleep and ability to leave my husband/ grandparents help out a bit more.

Has anyone given a night time formula bottle and also continued to breastfeed alongside it without it affecting milk supply?

I did but the bottle was around 7pm which meant that dd1 still woke at least once in the night so my supply was fine.

I give my dd a ff at bedtime and have done since she was about 3 weeks old (it took about 3 weeks to get her to take it though). She's 5 months now and is bf all of the rest of the time. I don't know if it's affected my supply at bedtime or not because she has the f everyday anyway so a reduction in supply wouldn't necessarily be noticed IYSWIM but she seems fine bf the rest of the time. Dd began to sleep through with the f but at times when she's been poorly and wanted to feed during the night I have milk there.

Thanks for both of the replies. It's reassuring that you've both successfully done this. I could do with trying to get a proper bedtime for him and I think one formula feed might help with this too. I'm just apprehensive that he will prefer a bottle and we have to stop breastfeeding which I would, selfishly, be very sad about.

I don't think that would happen with one bottle. We used the newborn teat always.

I gave my baby a bottle of formula before bed for about 4 weeks when he was newborn so I could have a rest (he was a massive cluster feeder). He was totally fine with take both and we are now back to just breast feeding and my supply is fine. It had no impact other than positive and getting me over a bit of a breast feeding hump.
