Infant feeding

Advice needed pronto!

I've posted already this week about wanting to stop breastfeeding almost 1 year old DS.

He hasn't fed since 1pm today and hasn't looked for it.

He took a quarter of a sippy cup of warm cows milk (which he's never done before).

DP is going to take him to bed now. I usually co-sleep and feed whenever he wants during the night (as I'm a lazy mare). DP has offered to sleep with DS.

I'll have his room ready tomorrow (waiting for curtains to arrive) and then we'll start the transition to his cot.

Does this sound ok?

My plan would be to feed him in the morning and then see how long be could hold off again for.

Any advice?

He's sobbing his heart out on DP Sad .

My instinct is to go feed him. Should I fight that and stay downstairs or just go feed him? Arghh.

Why not feed? It doesn't have to stop suddenly, does it? Gradual is kinder. I think you prob agree:)

Thanks tiktok.

I think I'm handling the whole thing asswise as I'm desperate to stop but don't know how. DD fed till she self weaned at 2. I really really can't face another year of bfing.

I have tried to drop feeds and have been doing well for a few days but twice DS has then developed a horrible cold and then an ear infection and I couldn't bring myself to deny him the comfort of boob and then we ended up back at square one Sad .

He went to sleep tonight after 15 mins of crying. I'll give him a quick feed if he wakes and then try to get him back to sleep.

Is 2 feeds a day ok for a 1 year old who is taking other milk?I feel like I can distract him during the day.

Good luck! Two feeds a day plus milk in food, giving yoghurt a etc should be fine at that age.

I didn't breast feed DD but when she turned 1 I stopped all bottles during the day and only offer cold milk or water in a beaker / sip cup. At bedtime she gets a bottle of warmed milk.

The bedtime bottle she loves and it seems to really settle her for the night.

Thanks both.

He just woke up. I went up and fed him for less than 5 mins and then signalled for DP to come and swap.

I'm sat here reading blogs about stopping and other people make it sound so easy!

I need to be strong and not just fees him because he's used to it or because it's the easy option.

Will update tomorrow. Thanks all.

A wee update.

He slept with DP all night waking twice but quickly going back over.

I fed him at 8am this morning and haven't fed him since! He is a bit grumpy but easily distracted with books and toys.

I'm happy to feed him tonight and follow the waking/bedtime feed pattern for a few days before dropping one more.

My boobs are big and a bit sore. I've read that hand expressing in a hot shower can help? Can do that when DP gets home.
