Infant feeding

The last breastfeed..

.. how does that actually work?

I've been slowly swapping over from breast feeding to formula over the last 6 weeks, and am now down to a feed at bedtime and anything she wants overnight. I'd like to completely stop over the next two weeks, but how does that actually work?

Up until now my boobs haven't been too engorged, they leaked a bit in the first week when I just dropped one feed, but nothing since. I've woken up some nights with one rock hard boob, but not often. If I just say that's it, and stop on a specific date, then will my boobs just both get engorged, or will that only last for a little while. Will I need to pump a bit or feed a tiny bit to reduce the hardness?

Duh! Other people I know have just had the baby slowly lose interest, but I don't see that happening here.

I weaned when DS2 was 25 months. He was feeding between 2 and 5 times per day, nothing overnight.

I gave him his bedtime feed as usual on the Monday, and that was it. No more BF.

My boobs were fine. Maybe a tiny bit tender. I hand expressed a little bit in the shower for a couple of days, but only got a drop or two out. Two weeks on, my boobs are back to normal - no tenderness or engorgement. I imagine it might be different if your DC is younger though?

I second hand expressing in the shower for a couple of weeks - mine have been ok for the past couple of weeks, I'm only getting a few drops out now (although I was disappointed at how quickly they shrank back to floppy lumps of nothing Hmm)

Thanks guys. I've never been very good at getting much out with hand expressing, hence why I didn't even THINK of it. Ha.

My boobs already feel like lumps of nothing - I've gone down two bra cup sizes since before I was pregnant. Erk.

There is loads of good bra measuring advice on here, if you search on Talk.

I assumed I was a 32 A (have always been small-boobed) but it turns out I am a 32 C which is a lot more respectable!!
