Tenderness/pain in underside of breast. . . causes?

Hoping theres someone out there who can shed some light on this pain I've developed. . .
My DS is 12 weeks old and exclusively breastfed on demand, not had any problems up until now but in the last few hours I've developed this pain in the bottom of my left breast. The only way to describe it is sort of like a tender almost bruised feeling? It's really quite sore but only on one specific area, the rest of the breast is fine. I can't feel any lumps at all and there isnt any redness or swelling, the breast looks entirely normal snd my DS has fed as per usual today

When I googled mastitis or blocked ducts it seemed like those things were associated with lumps/redness/flu like symptoms, but I dont have any of those things

Any thoughts?!

I had a pain like what you describe although I did have a red patch of skin as well. Saw gp straight away who said it was mastitis and prescribed antibiotics.

The next day I woke up and thought I was dying (think fluey. I'm not good being ill!) and my other boob was entirely red.

I'd probably keep feeding regularly, sleep on your back, and don't wear underwired bras.

Hope it doesn't turn out to be mastitis Flowers

Sounds like mastitis. I managed to stop it turning into full blown mastitis but feeding with babies chin pointing towards the sore patch to drain it, use a hot wet flannel massaging the lump before and during feeding to get things moving.

Meh!

Thank you for the advice though, I'm going to head to bed-fingers crossed for the morning!

Don't discount the possibility of thrush too, although it sounds more like mastitis. I had thrush in my breast for at least 3 weeks, the pain was horrid. Hope you feel better soonThanks Thanks Thanks

Hi hope you are feeling better great advice from posters. Just wanted to add my two pence. My dd just a little older and EBF on demand too I haven't experienced thrush or mastitis(touch wood) but have always had chronic oversupply and fast aggressive letdown and I've had a similar pain as you've described as a result of having to block feed some days so full breast and dd less favourite best gets burning sensation on the underside I've found that limiting tight bras has help so nipple not compressed and breast compression during feeding after feeding massage the breast but the thing I've found that has help sooo much is changing feeding holds every now and then so the ducts feel like they are getting drained from all areas of the breast has really helped that underside burning sensation
