Breast feeding 18 month old after a break?

Hi there. I'm hoping someone can reassure me.... My 18mo DS still bf once a day, first thing in the morning most days. He doesn't "need" it as such, but we're both happy to continue and I enjoy having a peaceful moment with him before his 3yo brother charges in.

Anyway, I've been admitted to hospital today with a broken ankle that needs surgery and won't be home for at least 3 days. Does anyone know if I will still have milk for him when I get out? It will have been at least four mornings without a feed by then. I know we would probably have stopped soon, but I'm not quite ready yet and I didn't want to stop under these circumstances. I'm not sure how easy it will be for him to visit at the hospital, but anyway he is only really interested when he first wakes up. (At other times, he is just too distracted and has form for biting!)

Thank you in advance.

Poor you. Not what you need over Christmas.

I breast fed my son for 15 months. Had no issues at all with not feeding then starting up again. Infact it took along time for me to stop producing milk after we stopped. You might want to express though as this will make it more comfortable for you. They may even have babies who could benefit from it.

Hope you mend soon x

Be careful you don't get engorged while in hospital. If u can't feed you could always pump.

The supply will be fine. My DS voluntarily made a break of nearly 3 weeks (just didn't want to breastfeed, he only had morning feeds by then) around 20 months, and then restarted again. Now he has a feed every few days, sometimes everyday. Your supply is well established by now and doesn't disappear in few days. However, your DS may decide he doesn't want it after the break...

Thank you all. Fortunately, it was decided that I wouldn't have the operation so I am now home with my cast and crutches. It is reassuring to know I should still be able to feed DS - I just hope he wants it!
