Can mastitis clear up without treatment?

Yesterday morning I had what felt like the start of mastitis - sore lumpy breast, red patches and lines, feeling fluey. I've had mastitis twice in the last 4 weeks and it started exactly the same way but got worse quite quickly. This time it isn't getting worse so I'm wondering whether I might get away without antibiotics (I hate taking them as they upset ds's stomach). My breast is still sore and lumpy, the redness has reduced although it's still a bit pink, and I feel fine, not fluey. Is there a chance it will clear up without antibiotics if I carry on with heat, massage and feeding?

I've found that it's when the flu symptoms persist is the need for antibiotics. If the flu symptoms have gone I'd probably give it another day or so of massaging and feeding on that side. I also found a cabbage leaf on the breast helped a lot. Good luck!

Thanks, that's what I'm hoping. The flu symptoms haven't come back yet, so fingers crossed!

Have you tried soya lecithin to prevent recurrent blocked ducts?
