Almost 6 weeks. Slipping latch and trapped wind...

Just that really! This is my first baby so everything is a learning curve. She'll be 6 weeks on Tuesday.

I was shown how to breast feed in hospital - the first couple of days her latch was not great so my nipples suffered greatly! I've been assured by other mums that this improves. She now knows how to latch properly, but will slip into sucking my nipple part way through the feed. If it becomes unbearable I will take her off and re-latch, but would really like to know if there is a way I can ensure her latch stays non-painful and she can enjoy a good undisturbed feed. She's currently feeding every 2 hours so I'm sore!

Second of all, she get's terrible trapped wind - needing to poo, but not being able to. It's awful to see her in so much pain and not be able to take it away. I've tried all the different positions/massage etc, but nothing seems to work. It can go on for hours before she finally (explosively) fills her nappy. Is this normal for this age? Does anyone have any ideas on how else I can help her?

I found dd had a slipping latch around 5-6 weeks. I used the flipple technique, if you google it you'll find some videos, and that really seemed to help. Plus I think as her mouth got bigger, her latch improved. She's almost 14 weeks now and doesn't give me any pain. Do you have a fast flow of milk? I think that was the main reason dd slipped back as she couldnt cope with it so well when she was smaller.

She also had the trapped wind too. We did tummy massage and bicycle legs but really I think she just grew out of it by about 10 weeks or so. I hated seeing her in pain like that too but luckily it resolved itself.
