How much formula to give a new born?

On the side of the box it says 3oz 6 times a day for a new born. 3oz seems like a lot in one go. Also does the water have to be hot to make the bottle up or can it be room temperature?

The box will have clear instructions on how to prepare the formula safely

The volume of formula per feed, and time intervals indicated on the box are guidelines, be led by your baby

dizzy it should say on the box the water must be no cooler than 70 deg C which is what it is after boiling and then cooling for a short time.

For volume and frequency, the baby is the best guide. Many babies feed more often and with smaller quantities each time when newborn. Are you in touch with a midwife or Hv?

Just to add: room temp water is not safe because the water needs to be hot enough to kill bugs in the powder.

Well this is what I thought but a friend said she always left the water in the bottles to go to room temp the made them up as she needed them.

Some people do this. It's not considered to be a safe way of preparation, though.

Formula contains salmonella among other harmful bacteria. If you don't use boiling water, it doesn't kill the harmful bacteria. 3oz is a lot for a newborn.

Just make up 2oz at a time and see how much he wants. Dd took 1 or 2 max for first few weeks and she was a big baby - 9 15.
I
Congratulations on your baby!
