Help-my10wk old will NOT take a bottle

Hmy nearly 11wk old ds will not take a bottle. I've been ebf and trying to give him a bottle of breast milk for over a week. I've now started putting formula in because it was heartbreaking pouring breast milk away every day. The thing is, not only will he not suck on the bottle hut he gets absolutely hysterical. No exaggeration. He barely cries and is a very placid child so it must be really upsetting him. I've done all the general tips of doing it when not too hungry and very hungry. Others have tried and done it so i am not around as an option but each time he gets into a terrible state. He's a big baby and feeds a lot so i need him to take a bottle......help!!!!! I don't really want to ho down route of new teats as i think could go on forever and spend a fortune.

I spent a fortune on different bottles and my son refused them all. He is now 6 months old and has nevertaken a bottle as would get very distraught. If you need to let someone else feed maybe try a Doidy cup, spoon or a syringe?

Mother of a bottle refuser here!!! Just keep trying. My DD now taking a bottle for the first time ever at 10 months!! It has been war and seems pointless now

Some babies don't like taking bottles. Is there a reason you need him to take a bottle, ie are you going back to work? If not, I'd try a Doiddy cup, and if that doesn't work, leave it a while and then try again.

Why do you need him to take a bottle from you? (I think they often won't from mum as they know you have the real thing! Also if you are around then surely it is much easier to breastfeed than express, sterilise, warm the milk etc. If he needs one for when you aren't there then I'd get someone else to give it / practice).

My 6 month old has always refused a bottle (and a dummy) whereas her older sister was fine. We have pretty much given up now - she is starting solids and so I figure she can have food / sippy cup now when I'm not around.

I used my breast pump loads with DD1 but like you with DD2 have switched to formula for when we do try and feed her milk, as I mind less about chucking it away!

We ended up using a nuk soft spout cup at about 4-5 months. DS would take a bottle, but he was rubbish at it - he gets the idea with the spouted cup much better.

OP a slightly different tack - at about 3 months their feeding tends to settle down, and they go for longer stretches without feeds, so if you're really up against it now in terms of feeding, things may improve soon. Sorry if that's cold comfort

Hi my bottle refusing baby was looked after by mum at the weekend and with a variable flow tommee tippee teat and perseverance she got the first two bottles down her and then she apparently took the next two like a pro! She said it helped that I wasn't around to -give in- distract her!

DH has managed to feed her with a free flow cup and a syringe when had to.

I needed DD to take a bottle when I was going back to work. God it was awful, she was (still is!) so STUBBORN. If you had told me she was half goat I would have believed it.

Anyway her amazing keyworker whom I still adore 7 years later, eventually cracked it. She heated the EBF really hot, much hotter than you would think (not scalding obv) and that is when DD started guzzling it down. Maybe you have Hot Boobs like me.

Just wanted to update. A friend gave me the tiny Nuk teat and he only bloody had it! Done two separate feeds now (3 each feed as so small). I pray this continues. I'm off to mbuy Nuk bottle tomorrow and hope he takes it from a normal size bottle.
