lip tie- any point in doing anything??

so ds is 5 weeks. from the start something hasn't been quite right... v unsettled etc etc. we have gone down several avenues like reflux etc and ended up getting diagnosed with cmpi by hospital.
i have been dairy free for a week now and seeing some improvement i think.
from day 1 i thought he didn't open his mouth v wide to latch on so a paed checked (quickly) for tt and said all was okay.
5 weeks on i am sure he has an upper lip tie. he is a v fussy feeder, never comfort sucks, poor latch etc but i am in no pain and luckily my.boobs and nipples are v accomodating and we seem to get by. his tongue looks fine and v free moving.
he hasn't been weighed much but is gaining weight last time he was checked.
i know they dont do anything about a lip tie so is there any point in me getting a private lc???
i know a lip tie often goes hand in hand with a posterier tt but if they don't do anything re lip tie is there any point.in getting checked for postierier tt???

Hi there. My little lady had an upper lip tie which really affected weight gain. So we had it lasered free at 6 weeks. The difference it made was unbelievable. They do warn you its not a cure for all but it worked great for us. If you feel its for you its best to be decisive and have it done while baby very small because the sucking and latch will change.

There are a couple of dentists in the UK who will laser a lip tie if appropriate.

You're right, lip ties are pretty much always accompanied by a tongue tie, usually posterior. These are the ones that often get missed by HCPs.

I won't tell DS1's story of undiagnosed tongue tie, but feel free to search. Suffice to say that if I had his baby days again, I would have gone straight to one of the dentists I mentioned earlier (except neither of them were doing this back then) and had his ties revised.

Dentist did mine as well. Very quick when it comes to it. I think its worth even just so you dont spend weeks wondering if you should have. If its needed it can be done. If its not needed at least you know.

My DC3 had an upper lip tie; I tried in vain tom get my HV to take it seriously, but as DS2 was feeding and putting onweight they weren';t bothered. Buuuuut, it took me an age to get BF well established, and it was always uncomfortable; he was fussy at the breast (put down to colic) but it went on for months and months. Eventually I got used to it, and learned to lump the discomfort. ast forward to DS2 @ 14 months and toddling in the woods. He fell, bashed his face and there was blood everywhere. Feeding him tnhat night was a revelation; pain free and comfortable for the first time ever,and he was able to do the classic duck lips position for the first time ever. When we looked, he had burst the lip tie when he fell. So, in hindsight, I should have fought harder for someone to deal with the lip tie; OK, DS was fine and thriving, but I was having a hard time through it all.

If I could do it all again, I would pay whatever was needed for it to be dealt with privately; DS had lots of feeding/sleeping/bowel issues that I think would have been resolved earler had the lip tie been dealt with when I first noticed it at a few weeks old.

Be persistent, and find someone who will help you xx

on the posterior tongue tie; DS is five and has some speech issues; mainly S sounds, -r sounds (says fwuck for truck, bick for brick, w for R), nd a few others; could this be caused by the lip tie/undiagnosed posterior lip tie?
