"Little & often" breast feeders Anyone??

All three of mine have been like this (dd1 fed to 13m, dd2 fed to 15m) ds is 6 weeks old and feeds little and often. But I do think he's getting a good feed sometimes just not all the time. He was 8lb 14 at birth and now 12lb 5. So he's gaining well.

He doesn't fall asleep much at the breast after a nice long feed with the "juddering of the chin" milk drunk state etc. Sometimes he will but not all the time. It's as if he'll top up more than anything leaving me left with full boobs and then he'll wake sooner for another feed.

Anyone got this?

Maybe it's just his way of feeding? He does seem unsettled sometimes after a feed or not satisfied.

He also gets a lot of wind Hmm

My DD does this, she was a very similar birth weight and also gained well initially, and still is (22 wks now, about 23lbs so gains very quickly, no idea of its related to feeding so often).
She used to feed every hour, then it dropped to every 90 mins or so, and now it's 'only' every couple of hours.
Most of the feeds are short, more snacks than big meals I think.
In theory I want to stretch the feeds out more but actually I can't be arsed at the moment, DD is happy and I'm still off work another 6 months so I'll worry about it,later.
HTH.

Yep - same here with 4 month old. Driving me mad now as it's meaning he does longer feeds at night and a lot of them!

YES I had this as well but I figured out it was because he was getting no naps or very short naps. He always wants to eat when he is over tired or after he sleeps so I tried to resolve by getting long naps in with the pram. So he feeds little and often when he is at home but he is ABLE to go a long time if we are out and he is sleeping. Then when he wakes up he gets a nice long feed in (if we arrive at home - he hates feeding when he is out!)

I've got pretty much exactly the same as Kiki, but I have a boy. The only time he'll do a long feed is if he's really tired, and then I suspect it's mainly comfort.

O have a snacker and napper. Got slightlybbetter around 5 months then started teething and it's all gone to pot again. (8 teeth in 2 months) sometimes she would literally take 3 sucks (yep just enough to trigger let diwn) then want to go back to play. She's a boob monster day and night. :)
