Symptoms of mastitis but no sore boobs!

DS is 6 weeks and EBF. For the last week I've been feeling really crap. I've been getting headaches, aches and pains all over and the worse thing is my skin feels really painful (like when you're feverish - but I don't have a temperature). The skin thing is mainly on my back - it's really awful. I also have an increasingly painful letdown but once he's got going with feeding this settles down. And I am wiped out. Something is not right!

Dr Google threw up mastitis and I do have lots of the symptoms but my boobs aren't really sore. Ibroprophen really helps and taking it really eases the symptoms, but they come back with a vengeance when it wears off. The symptoms are particularly bad at night.

I spoke to my GP this morning and he thought as my boobs were OK it probably wasn't mastitis and thought it was viral. Generally I would listen to a doctor, but I just feel so bad. It feels like an infection. But of what. It's not getting better. It may be a bit worse today. I can't just keep popping ibroprophen forever.

Any ideas?

no idea sorry but if it was mastitis you would know-it makes your breasts incredibly painful

Forgot to say, it's DC3 so I know what is and isn't normal and I know I'm bound to be knackered but this is more extreme. The skin thing is the worse and it's really freaking me out.

Oh and mentally I feel fine so no pnd.

Thanks. I did have mastitis once before and it was painful, but I did also have all the other symptoms.

Watching with interest - got this at the moment but with the temperature and sweats. I've had mastitis with both DC so like you know what to watch for.... And I'm pretty sure this isn't it. Doing all the blocked duct remedies just in case but starting to think it's just a bug.

What blocked duct remedies are you doing puddleducks? I think I should do that to try and rule it out...

You don't have to have a very sore boob, prod round maybe a bit that feels a little bruised, one blocked duct gives you the symptoms you describe. It's your body reacting to the leaking milk proteins.

I had infective mastitis. No breast symptoms at all. I thought I had a urine infection though. Turns out I had blood poisoning and the infection had spread to my bladder.

8 days in hospital on an IV.

Phone NHS?

Was expressing until boobs were v empty and combing with a shower comb under the hot water. You can also use hot compresses before feeds and stick a Savoy cabbage leaf in your bra (if you fancy it!) ... Mines definitely a virus rather than mastitis though as DS had been struck down now...
